March is My Favorite Month
Those of us who live in the Chicago area really appreciate nice weather. We’re a hardy bunch. We fully recognize and celebrate the four seasons…
Winter (winter), Winter (spring), Summer (summer) and Winter (autumn).
Because we only have a very limited time to enjoy nice weather, we manage to maximize every possible moment of it.
That said, March is my favorite month.
Why? You may ask. March is often a terrible month. It comes in like a lion and goes out…..generally like a lion...with possibly a few nice days mixed in. It’s cold, snowy, miserable and usually looks awful due to melting snow and rock salt mixed in with car emissions and general debris which have gotten mixed into the mess over the last several months.
Here’s why it’s my favorite:
1) It only gets better from here on out While April is rainy and sometimes very chilly, it sure isn’t January, February or March. Even if we get the occasional April snow storm, it melts in a day or two. March is like "April lite"
2) Daylight Savings Time This is one of the greatest scams of all time, nonetheless, it’s fantastic! This coming Saturday night/Sunday mornng at 2 AM, we will all set our clocks ahead one hour. What this means in real terms is that come Sunday night, it will still be somewhat light outside at around 7PM. How can you feel that seasonal depression when you sit down to dinner and it’s still light outside?
3) Because we have been desensitized by all of the awful weather, we now feel that we can handle anything. In fact, on many days in recent weeks when the thermometer was zero degrees or below, people were out and about doing there normal day-to-day activities. When that was happening back in November or early December, most of the world was locked down and incommunicado. We are now invincible!!!
So to all of you who keep posting on their Facebook page that they “have had it with winter”
Get a grip
.
IT'S MARCH
