Has anyone else watched the SECRET?

I just read about The Secret a couple days ago, and watched it. Then I saw it on Oprah yesterday, it must be catching on. I was very intrigued by the movie and it made me realize that  I was actually using the secret concepts in my real estate career. If you havent watched the secrets I would strongly suggest that you do so. I won't go on and on talking about The Secret and then spoil The Secret for you.

I had an experience very similar to what they describe in The Secret.  When I was a flat broke salesman about 7 years ago, I was sitting in my office reading books and decided to make a goals picture board.  On that board I put down all of the things that I wanted. Looking back it seems funny but I put that I wanted to make $100,000 before I was 30 (I was only making $20,000). I wanted to have a Harley Davidson. I wanted to have a sports car of some sort (I really didnt even know which one, but hey I was dreaming I figured I better throw it in there), I wanted to buy my first house by 30, I wanted a boat, lastly I realized I would need something to pull the boat with so I threw a jeep in there as well.

Fast forward 5 years and we were moving to our new house and my wife was bringing one of my old work boxes out of storage and I saw my old goals board which I had forgotten about completely, as odd as it seems that board never crossed my mind again after the day I put it together. I pulled it out to have a laugh and realized I was moving into my dream house, parked in my 3rd stall was a convertible vet, and a Harley (both paid for w/cash), in my driveway was my jeep hooked up to my boat ready to go. I know it sounds hard to believe but my thoughts had actually manifested themselves into making my dreams a reality.

I caught The Secret on Oprah yesterday and found it fascinating.  I had read and heard about this type of belief a few years ago.  Then for some reason I got caught up in life and have picked up a lot of my old beliefs again.  I will have to watch the movie because it sounds great.  Glad to hear that you are doing so well with life because of your positive attitude.

Very nice, Eric. I always enjoy hearing about success applying the Law of Attraction. The great part (and sometimes the most difficult to accept) is that it really doesn't take a lot to make your dreams a reality.

If you believe success means lots of struggle and hard work and even then not everything can be yours - you're right. On the other hand, if you believe all it takes is to put your dream on a board (and in your mind), know it will happen, and let it go... you're right as well.

I was given the Secret by a Realtor buddy of mine (www.callnorm.com) here in VA.  Norm says that I work my business like the Secret. I didn't realize what he was talking about until I watched this movie.  I truly believe in the core principles....at the heart of the secret is optimism and surrounding yourself with success.  I truly believe you can control the people and thoughts you surround yourself with.

Great concepts! And congrats to you Eric.  You are the man!

I actually was in a bookstore yesterday and checking some things out somewhat near the information desk.  While I was there, 5 different people came up and asked for this book.  It could not have been in more than a 20 minute time period.  They were sold out.  Now i am intrigued.  Thanks for posting.

The Secret is based on a book written nearly 100 years ago called "The Science of Getting Rich". Very similar to Napolean Hill's "Think and Grow Rich". Law of attaction is based on thought, feeling, and action - in other words, the vibrations we give off. I have been a realtor for almost 4 months now and made it a point to incorporate The Secret into my business strategy. Meaning, I made big goals and everyday consciously moved in a direction towards those goal. They key is understanding that it's not my job to know how I'm going to achieve my goals, but act when a plan is received. Lo and behold, I just got my first listing for a 3BR/2BA condo for $1,699,000. It's amazing. This stuff works!!

I am rereading "Think and Grow Rich Action Pack" by Napoleon Hill and on p.26 was struck by this simple objective "the object of this book is to help all who seek it to learn the art of changing their minds from failure consciousness to success consciouness."

While i am at it, I am compelled to mention the next point afer the objective which is also very powerful "another weakness found in altogether too many people is the habit of measuring everything , and everyone, by their own impressions and beliefs."

Thank you Eric for getting us going on this subject.

I've heard so much about the movie and the book, yet I haven't taken the time to pursue it. I will definitely make it something to look at this weekend.

Thanks,

It's an interesting phenomenon, both from a marketing and a sociological perspective....  Here's a little more on it.

I have watched it and am in the process of reading it, again.  Thoughts become things. What a great principle to work from : )
