ASICS LA Marathon - From the Stadium to the Sea
This morning I watched the ASICS LA Marathon on TV that started at Doger's Stadium and ended at Santa Monica. It was so exciting and remember the feeling when I used to go the night before and run the marathon myself. Those days are gone with my bad knees now I just walk instead and watch the marathon on TV instead.
This morning the winners were not so clear cut as usual as no one knew for sure until the end who would win. The "Elite Male" group was down from 5 to 3 and then 2. Same with the "Elite Female" group who started with 5 and then was down to three but one took the lead and she never let anyone pass her again.
It was neck and neck and spectators thought the Ethopian male runner might pass up the female but no way as she came in first to win $25,000 as #1 Female. Amane Gobena, 31 years old, with a time of 2 minutes 27 seconds plus she also won $50,000 for being the #1 across the finish line.
The #1 Elite Male Runner from Ethopia, Gebo Burka, ran the race in 2 minutes 10 seconds. The females get a 17 minute start which is why Gobena's time is longer than Burka's.
The #3 female, Lauren Klepplin, 25 yrs old from Mammoth Lake, California and she ended up coming in 3rd right after the first female and male runners did. It was terribly exciting to watch. She had a remarkable time of 2 hours 28 minutes.
Also the Channel 5 News Team was there at most of the mile posts and interviewed runners throughout the day. Andy Potts (former Triathlon Winner and Current Newscaster) interviewed Cy Baumann of Irvine who was one of the original Marathon Runners back in 1984 when it started and has run everyone of the races since for a total of 29 marathons in Los Angeles. Cy says there are 180 runners who have run every year.
It was so exciting to remember the feeling when I used to go the night before and run the marathon myself. Those days are gone with my bad knees now I just walk and do yoga for exercise and watch the marathon on TV instead. If you get the chance, go run the LA Marathon as it is so Inspirational for the Soul.
Have a great Sunday..... Kristin Hamilton, former Marathon Runner and current Realtor
