Spring Makes My Heart Sing and the Spirits Soar
We just made the change of times to leap forward, which is the hint that our hibernation from winter is about to end. This year has been tough and it’s lingering as well. March comes in like a lion but goes out like a lamb is the expression and this year we are living it.
The advent of the warmer weather brings a cacophony of sounds and a promise of a burst of colors. We’ll suffer through the muck and the street sand and even the brown of the yard, with a very pasty texture, but as the days get longer and the temperatures rise, the transformation begins.
The sounds of spring are the birds singing to the sky and the fluttering of their wings as they seek out the ideal places to make their nests to lay their eggs. The chirping of the squirrels blends in as well as they d their thing as well. The neighbor’s dog spends it’s time outside and as those intruders cross it’s yard the yapping begins to let them know it’s still their turf.
Day by day we can see the progression of the yards as the grass starts its climb from dormancy. The trees begin to look fuzzy as new buds start to form, and as if by magic one morning a red bud bursts into a flowering bloom. That green crown atop the long stem becomes a daffodil or a tulip. All that brownish turf is now a lawn that is begging for that mower to even off the rough edges.
I will very soon put away the shovels and the snow boots, and bring out the rakes and spades. Tune up the mower and there is no question the golf clubs will have been dusted off as well.
Spring is around the corner and I can’t get to the intersection soon enough.
