Spring Clean Your Front Yard for Maximum Curb Appeal

Spring will soon be here. Even with cold winter storms still raging, soon fruit trees will be in blossom and spring flowers in bloom. If you are listing your MoCo home this spring, now is the best time to plan and complete your front yard spring cleaning with staging in mind. As you clean your yard, keep the importance of curb appeal as your focus, and you will be ready to welcome potential buyers to your home.

Basic yard clean up begins with removing dead leaves and plant litter. Go through your flowerbeds and shrubbery cleaning up the ground of any leftover leaves from winter storms and winds. Prune any winter-killed branches on your trees and bushes as the weather warms up. This will also make room for new growth as the season progresses and assure potential buyers that your yard is healthy. If you missed trimming any perennial flowers back in the fall, now is a good time to finish the task. If you have areas within your flower beds that are sparse, you can fill them in by transplanting new growth from other flower beds with more plants. Thinning your flowers will encourage new spring growth and give you more color and life to your yard.

If you have a lawn with dead, brown areas, shovel out the damagedspot, and prepare it for seeding. Once the dead grass is removed, add in some mulch or fertilizer which will help in quicker growth of new grass seed. Be sure to get the right grass seed for your lawn. You don’t want to plan sun loving grass in a shaded area. A yard with soft, lush green grass has great appeal to potential buyers, and the less they yard cleanup they foresee, the more attracted to your home they shall be.

Take a close look at your patio, porch, driveway and any walk ways you have. Often paving stones may become heaved or displaced from winter storms. For any stones that need to be moved back into place, or replaced, be sure to add back in the base material before you put the stone back. This will help to secure it better. Fill in joints between stepping stones and sweep back in any loose gravel or sand from walkways and along your driveway. If needed, get a fresh supply of your fill material to finish the look. A good pressure washer will come in handy to clean off any moss or lichen growth. While you’re at it, a good pressure washing to your house will take away the last of winter grime and dirt, leaving your house bright and clean.
