The Louisville area of Kentucky has some of the most interesting places to live in the entire state. One such area is Lyndon. Situated just northeast of St. Matthews, Lyndon is a town spanning three square miles that was incorporated in 1965. Today, Lyndon has a population of approximately 11,000 people. Here is everything you should know about Lyndon before making the move.

Schooling Options in Lyndon

Lyndon is served by the Jefferson County School District. There are many choices for public and private schools in the area, including Anchorage Public Elementary School and Ballard High School. Lowe Elementary School and Our Savior Lutheran School are also nearby, in addition to several schools in Louisville proper. For example, all of the private schools to which Lyndon parents can send their kids are in Louisville. Parents who are moving to the area can rest assured that there are more than enough schools providing great educational options for local children.

The Most Powerful Industries in the City

Before moving to Lyndon or any city, it's always imperative that one knows the job situation in the area. In Lyndon specifically, the area's industry is dominated by the accommodation & food services industry and the retail industry. Together, they account for about one-third of all the employment opportunities in the area. Other major employers for people in this small city include technical and scientific services, manufacturing, warehousing and transportation, construction and social assistance and healthcare services. Employees in any of these industries are likely to have a reasonably easy time finding a job in the city and surrounding areas. Given its location, though, Lyndon residents can easily find employment in various sectors in the nearby (and much larger) Louisville.

What Do People Do for Fun in Lyndon?

Even though Lyndon is a small city in Kentucky, the locals still manage to find a great number of ways to busy themselves. One can head to the Frazier Historical Arms Museum to see all the various kinds of ammo used by the area's earliest settlers. Then, there's always the Ohio River, which is a very short distance away and is great for water activities like boating. People who just wish to enjoy nature and take a pleasant and relaxing stroll can do so along the Farnsley-Moremen Landing. This Landing has the added benefit of running along the Ohio River. There are also several parks in the area, including Robsion Park and A.B. Sawyer Park. Sports enthusiasts will love the abundance of local golf and country clubs, while the Oxmoor Center Mall adjacent to Shelbyville Road and the Mall St Matthews across the highway offer a variety of retail outlets for shopping enthusiasts.

Lyndon sits in northern Kentucky inside Jefferson County. It is a mostly middle-class area that is ranked as a 4th-class city in the state. Its history goes back to the early days of the American republic, and it's currently a part of the Louisville Metro government. It is an independent city that has its own mayor as well as emergency services. If you’re looking for a quiet community just minutes from the impressive amenities of Kentucky’s largest city, Lyndon is the ideal place for you.
