When preparing your home for sale you switch from Living Mode to Selling Mode. There are different guidelines for how the house should look. The focus switches from the seller to the buyer.
I tell my clients we are going to walk a fine line between looking like a model home and looking like a home where someone is living comfortably.
I want to show them that the home works .... but with flare.
To get the model home feel, I depersonalize the home. Cleaning items and tools are put away. Family photos, religious icons, collections are stored. Furniture and accents are used to highlight each space and feature.
To get the comfortable home feel, I leave enough of the seller's style in the spaces to keep the home warm and lived in.
To do that I use the seller's possessions but in a selling way. There is just enough left on counters to show that there is room for common items while leaving plenty of prep space.
Children's rooms should evoke an emotional response.
When you walk that fine line, don't forget to leave the Home in the House.
