Gym RatIn all the criteria I've seen for hiring a Real Estate Professional (Realtor, Stager, Inspector, Loan Officer, Appraiser, etc.) I never hear what I think it should be.

                        HIRE YOURSELF A GYM RAT

Do you know what they are? In basketball or boxing they are the last ones to leave practice on the court or in the ring. In skating they call them rink rats. I think I see Tiger Woods as one in the twilight on the practice putting green. What does that mean? They are tough as nails. They are hard workers. They practice, practice, practice. Do they have piano rats? Probably. They are smart. Above all they they love what they do. If they have six months, two years, or twenty years experience, their love for what they do will take care of you and your needs each and every day. They always want to be getting better.

And as a side note, if YOU are one of those Real Estate Professionals, aspire to always be a gym rat. It's a good goal to have on your list each year. You know you already love what you do. Never get burnt out. Take breaks, and CONTINUALLY educate yourself and mingle with the others that are eagles in your profession to soar higher and higher.

Be a gym rat and spend an extra half an hour practicing those three point shots so when the clock ticks down at crunch time, you're the one who will provide the shot at the buzzer that will win the game. Your clients will love you for it.

Gary, you do have to keep ahead of the game.  What better way than to take in the concentrated information from Active Rain posts 24/7?  Now I feel better about my 10 hour runs on AR instead of searching for something to do.  Come Monday, I'm on the phones with the Realtors I work with going over new information I learned.  They love it!

Linda: You are welcome.

Ginger: This little guy I think is a gerbil, but the hard work and PRACTICE will pay off with making those three point shots in the end.

Matthew: This is the Rocky Balboa rodent.

Judy: Cmon, you're not going to jump up on a chair when a mouse runs between your legs are you? : )

Gym rats (the term) are phenomenally passionate about their work and hard workers. Face it, you're one too.

Midori: Wow, a pet rat owner amongst the group. Cool.

Mark: Active Rain is definitely for the accelerated learner types.

Gary, I love it!  My son is a guitar rat.  Yes, I'm just a rat...work-a-holic!  Thanks for the advice to take the needed breaks to avoid burn out.  I needed that!

Great analogy.  I built my business being the first one in and last one out of the office!  In between I was "in the streets" ... you know what I mean!  Never spent a lot of time in the gym... should have spent a little more time there!  Gary, you're right about working that extra hour ... Ziglar says you can have more hours in your week than your competition just by working one hour after everyone else has gone home. Working not schmoozing!  :)

Hi Gary,

Great info! Time off is essential for longevity!  Today I take more time off than ever and I love my business as much today as years ago.

Gary - As usual, this is a terrific analogy.  I think I fall into this category still.

Gary - great post!  LOVE the pic!  Yes, take the extra time to learn more, read more, and DO more!  It doesn't mean that you have less time to enjoy life - keep your self mentally sharp and one step ahead; it will make a world of difference!  Me?  I am a gym rat!

Don: I see we have rats among us. It is a good thing. A guitar rat - cool.

Jan: So many are allergic to work. The rats are passionate about it but also take breaks for balance.

Lynda: You have discovered that rest is a source of energy.

Jason: I know you are a hard worker.

Leesa: Gym rats are the ones getting things done.

Lindsey: Thanks.

Kelly: Look into yourself to see if you are one and see who else around you is one.

Gary, I love your line "If they have six months, two years, or twenty years experience, their love for what they do will take care of you and your needs each and every day. They always want to be getting better.

So true, so true!

Cynthia: I'm one of these who thinks while experience is important, it can be overrated. Those with a high desire to do the right thing, get back with you the right answer, who just flat out work hard focused on you, can easily outperform those with more "experience." The best teams and leaders are not always the ones with the most experience. The best just execute better due to their character and work habits.

Thanks for the inspiration!  I probably fit the bill already, except for actually going to the gym.  That's it!  I'm off to the gym today to lose 20 pounds.  If only one visit would do it....

Patricia: I just literally do some random searches on the search engines and do a little cut and paste. I'll let you in on a secret. Some days when my brain is a bit foggy I work my ideas backwards where I'll find an image FIRST, which sparks my imagination for the text. Very backwards I admit, but that's how I am wired.
