The sale of a home is frequently at the front door. Sometimes before you all even get out of the car. Read the Tips below and take the guidance to try to spruce up your first impressions. You can never make a first impression twice. The rest of the time spent in the home is affected by those first few moments.

Thinking about selling your Warren County home?  Before you have us put the sign in the front yard and go full marketing blitz, we've got a request for you!

Check your front door, because you don't want it looking ANYTHING like our picture!  Yes, we know you rarely use that door if you're like many suburbia homeowners.  You come in through the garage and you don't go down the sidewalk and through the front door, do you?

But your buyers will!  They're either going to park on the street or in your driveway, and the impressions are formed quickly.  Landscaping, lawn, colors, condition of the driveway, all are being factored in to form an opinion.

Can they walk easily down the sidewalk or do they need to dodge the rose bushes?

Is the door paint faded? 

Do you have wood rot in the entry area, particularly at the base of the door frame and/or sidelights? 

Is the caulking intact and fresh?

Free of creepy crawlies?  Wasps?  Spider webs?  Dead worms? 

Is the glass clean?  Fogged?  Cracked?

And not least importantly, does the lock work easily?  If the key you provide doesn't operate smoothly, that's trouble too.  Obviously if the buyers can't get in, they may not come back.  At a minimum, they've started with a VERY bad impression of your home.

And if the buyers are watching their agent struggle with getting the door unlocked, or locked, that's not good either.

For all of the above items, PLEASE take care of them prior to putting your home on the market.  Repair, replace, trim or clean as necessary.  Get the buyers started with a good experience at your front door, and good things may happen from there!
