Located immediately South of Portland, OR city limits is the prosperous suburb of Dunthorpe. This unincorporated suburban area is a short commute to Oregon's financial district and dedicated to residential development. A very nice area to live for sure. An interesting fact is that Dunthorpe and Oswego Lake are connected in history. The Oregon Iron & Steel Company SOLD 215 acres to William M. Ladd in 1916 and he proceeded to develop Dunthorpe. The neighborhood remains home to some of the most impressive estates Portland has to offer. Historically, Lake Oswego and the Oswego Lake were developed by the Oregon Iron & Steel Company to become the Pittsburgh of the West. Three hundred plus workers would smelt iron ore for the steel industry. The surrounding neighborhoods built churches, schools and parks for it's residents.

Dunthorpe, Oregon has many attractions and one in particular is thirteen acres large. Elk Rock Gardens of the Bishop's Close dedicates 6 of the 13 acres to English style garden. The park also has many varieties of magnolia trees and many other types of plants and trees. Perched high above the Willamette River this area has spectacular views of surrounding mountains. Mount Hood is right there for viewing and a wonderful gift to all photographers. Tryon Creek State Park is also close by and the walking pathways to nature are always enjoyable. Dunthorpe has been successful in attracting well to do residents and schools are a good reason to live here. Riverdale High School is well respected. Lewis & Clark College is close and the law school is popular. Dunthorpe has just about everything buyers need.
