Sunday Dreaming - No more cords!

No More Electrical Cords!

Cords One of my pet peeves is a tangle of cords, or cords snaking across walls to plug in our lamps, TVs, and other household appliances. I go to great lengths to find creative ways to avoid cord clutter. For years, I've dreamed of a wireless world in the home environment.

Apparently, it's not that far-fetched, and in some form, we already have the technology. (Think of Nikola Telsa's wireless concept, on a more focused scale.) Although, to date, it's not yet efficient enough to make it worthwhile for our homes.

A company called WiTricity Corp. is working to make this idea a realty in the future. A wireless world that transmits electronic waves throughout the house - no more cords, no more batteries. The technology promises to be more efficient - and safe. It can't happen soon enough!

Wirless POWER Debb is an interesting concept. At one point from POWER LINES we were supposed to get high speed data but that went nowhere. How to FOCUS the flow of electrons seems a HARD problem to solve. Picking up power from magnetic fields but magnetic fields are extremely WEAK you know. THEN people will wonder about the health hazards of MORE magnetic fields all around. The perfectly safe concept people might debate. I think it all has to do with power LEVELS. Sounds utopian the way she describes it. Stay tuned.

Hi Debb - I've been reading about this for a while, and I'm certainly ready to see it become a reality, but apparently, they haven't been able to overcome some efficiency limitations yet.

Hi Debb-it took me a year to figure out how to make my printer wireless. LOL, I love the concept and I'm sure that in the not so distance future this will be a reality. Hail Thomas Edison and Blutooth technology.

Debb, I would love to get rid of the wire mess next to my desk!     It is a chore to find the right cord when something is not working properly!   I do have a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Hi Debb... I'm such a fanatic about cords. With 3 computers, a bunch of music equipment, big screen tv, stereo... seems crazy that so many of my wall sockets have outlet power strips attached! And there seems to be a law of opposites at play so that the power cords are always too short or too long! I dream wireless!-)

Debb, I am all for this too. Cords are ugly, get tangled and cause me to trip. This will be a very welcome improvement.

I'm a fanatic about cords too. The scariest to me is what's lurking behind the tv, sound system etc. which I stay far away from. The ones I have control over I try to keep very tidy. But I'm on the same page as you are and the wireless sounds too good to be true

Hi Deb, a cordless world would be great.  We just got a new fishtank and I've been pouting about all of the cords associated with it.

I hope that you had a nice weekend.

Sounds too good to be true. Gary (#5) must be a ham radio enthusiast. Data over power lines didn't work well as there were too many problems that caused grave interferance with other devices. There is just too much that is not known about magnetic fields (like from Power lines) to hope for this one to go very far soon. Recharging a car or a cell phone wirelessly sounds good. expanding that field to cover the whole house with the power needed to supply distant devices needs to be tested.... a lot in my mind.

Debb, I'm actually surprised that wireless technology is not further along than it is. We have wires strung throughout our home, and it is a mess. This new technology looks great, and I just hope we can all afford it when it does hit the market.
