Get your Reno-Sparks  home ready to sell!

Having your home in tip-top condition will help you get top dollar on the sale of your home. Follow these tips and you will be well on your way to a clean, fresh home! First, walk throught your home as a buyer would. Start at the driveway and walk throughout your yard and home with a critical eye. Sometimes, it helps to invite a friend or family member to do this with you. Look for peeling paint, weeds, and unsightly clutter. Sometimes we are so used to the items around us that need repair, we don't actually "see" them!

De-clutter

Any items you are not using on a day-to-day basis should be boxed up, donated or dumped. You want potential buyers  to envision themselves living in the home, and that is very hard to do if there is excessive clutter in the home. If you have lots of family photos, these should be boxed for the move as well. Clear countertops, cupboards, closets so that they are open and organized. A good rule of thumb is, if you haven't used it in six months, donate it.

Clean

Go beyond normal surface cleaning; under appliances, walls, fixtures, flooring should all be smelling and looking their best. Organize cupboards, closets, drawers and the pantry as buyers will be looking in these areas.  You really want your home to sparkle the entire time it is listed for sale. Call a professional if needed! This goes for the outside of the home as well. Make sure you remediate any odors in the home.

Does it need paint or repairs?

Check for any areas, inside or out, that need paint. Prep and paint where needed or hire a pro! It will really make the home look tidy and well cared for. If you have missing or loose trim, holes in the walls or other damage, get it fixed! Leaky faucets, missing light bulbs, creaky doors should all be fixed. Is the area leading to the front door in perfect condition? This is the first thing the buyer sees, so remove dirt, cobwebs, and clutter.

Have pets?

We all love our four-legged family members, but not every buyer will! Clean up all pet waste (keep those kitty litter boxes spotless, please). Whether we realize it or not, most homes with pets will have a slight odor.  Make sure that any damage caused by pets is remedied. Some people are fearful of dogs, especially barking dogs, and this makes it very hard for them to focus on the home. Also, for the safety of your pets and the potential buyers, keep your animals safely kenneled during showings.

Lawn/ garden

Yard should be freshly mowed, green and weed free. All clutter and pet waste removed.  If you have xeriscaping, make sure it is neat and tidy.  For added points, plant some flowers, arrange a patio table and chairs to look inviting or show off other features, such as a pool or BBQ area. Think of the features buyers will love about your home and make them shine.
