Arbor Day Lake Oswego Poster Contest! Check out the details for events in our community.
We are dedicating time to Arbor Day in Lake Oswego. The days to celebrate this year are April 7 - 13th. Oregon is a tree state and Arbor Day is the National Tree Holiday in America when we plant ceremonial trees. We reflect on how important trees are in our daily lives and teach the public about the importance of trees. We use trees to make products we use every day like paper, burning wood as a source of heat and trees are shaped to build the houses we live in. Most children exercise while climbing trees and our forests provide homes to the animals around us. Arbor Day also honors trees and how they clean our air and water and aid in the prevention of global warming. Plants, trees and grass assist in reflecting heat from the sun and helps keep us cool. Shade and water from inside plants is used for our survival.
There's additional information at the Arbor Day Foundation website.
YOU can celebrate Arbor Day in a personal way. Here are some examples:
Volunteer with a local tree-planting organization. You can make a difference in the community and get out and appreciate the outdoors.
Take a look at books about trees and educate yourself and teach others about their importance.
Take a class on plant care and learn how to be a steward of trees.
GROUP celebrations for Arbor Day are so much fun. There are many great ideas:
Dedicate a forest. Ask your local nursery to host an OPEN HOUSE or donate items to be placed in a park. Give away trees to be planted at home.
Organize neighborhood gatherings such as block party, Arbor Day Fair and recycling project. Remind neighbors about how recycling works and what items go in which bins.
Hold a tree trivia contest and possibly a concert where people sing songs with the word tree in them or music is played that feature lyrics about trees.
Create a tree search where people look for historical trees and special types of trees that can be mapped and a walk or future seek and find events can be held to educate the public on where these wonderful trees are located.
There are sorts of ways to get involved so let's get outside and celebrate National Arbor Day.
ALL DAY on Friday, April 25, 2014.
Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you RESPECT OUR TREES!
