Are You a Re-Active or Pro-Active Real Estate Agent?
I read an interesting blog this morning from Bill Fields, asking if we were go-getters in real estate. http://activerain.com/blogsview/4357209/are-you-enough-of-a-go-getter-to-be-successful-in-real-estate- It really made me stop and reflect upon the effects of our attitude in our daily motivation.
To be successful in real estate, Without a doubt, you must be motivated. Committed. You must possess a quantity of pluck, responsibility, drive, and skill to utilize the field of real estate as a continuing career.
I was thinking of our office as I read Bill's thoughts. Two new agents in the past week landed million-dollar clients. With the median home price just over $200K in Tucson real estate, this is a big deal. One client was a buyer that came into an open house, and the other was a "walk-in" during floor duty, when we watch the office for our four hour shifts at Long Realty. Both are awesome opportunities and involved luck, but also putting yourself out there in the first place.
I reflected on the co-agent sitting beside me as I worked on the office computer as well. (I had floor duty too!) The agent mentioned that they were burnt out with too many open houses, too much floor, and no action. I empathize , but I also hearken back to the words I heard so long ago, "Are you re-active, or pro-active, in gaining real estate leads and prospects?"
Do we sit around and wait for that million dollar client to walk through the door? My "burnt-out" co-agent spent over an hour reading emails that involved everything from gag skiing adventures, talking parrots, dancing cats, and the like. Now this could have been the only hour of relaxation in a year's time for all I know...but I found it hard to keep my mind on completing my own assignments as I listened to the animals' play.
So can we succeed as re-active real estate agents? In my belief system, no. Not to keep consistency in our cash flow. Open houses and floor duty are great components of a business plan, but to be truly earning liveable salaries, today's real estate agents must be pro-active in a variety of ways. That variety depends upon the personality and business goals of each agent, but I feel that variety is indeed the foundation of a successful business plan.
