I still love Orlando... I can't imagine having to endure the challenging weather of the North and Midwest, as I did it for 36 years of my life...  With 260 days of sunshine combined with sharing our home with the #1 Mouse on the planet, Orlando is tops on my list.  Most original Orlando residents would think I was crazy to go to Downtown Disney at the height of spring break and the Friday before Easter but I went anyway...

I drove around and around looking for a parking spot, eventually having to stalk vacationers as they made a move toward their rental car.   In my Real Living Golf Shirt and Carol in a light sweater, we caught the end of sunset (almost 8pm) as we became one of the cattle to herd our way through the Disney Stores and Shoppes.   Watching people, and soaking up the energy of the Disney Disciples who were trying to get every last second of Disney Magic that they could soak up.

Finally, we made our move to the Portobello Yacht Club, a Great Restaurant.  The last time, we enjoyed a peaceful lunch with about 20 other people, now the Yacht Club had been transformed into a train station with what appeared to be a 1000 people trying to get a ticket to ride.  We slipped through the masses to the bar and ran into one of my customers, Steve Richard, who is the Head Chef.   I got a chance to watch for a few minutes before he noticed us, Steve is a Pro... I can tell you he was totally focused on managing the chaos of the day while trying to give all his guests the experience they were expecting.  Carol and I mused over the calm that he brought to the environment as he lead his staff to produce and deliver, in our case, Excellent Results.   Now dinner was complete and we walked back to a slightly less crowed parking lot, reflecting on "Life in Orlando."  We both agree this is the best place to sell Real Estate and find people homes... We love Orlando, and we appreciate the masses who visit our city... Heck, 10 years ago we were just like you, and now we get to call this city our home...

Glad to hear you are enjoying Orlando. There are some very good restaurants in the area.

Florida and Orlando are not for everyone. We moved from California to the Orlando metro area but it didn't work for us. Back in Danville, California and loving every minute of it! Different lifestyle. We can ride our bicycles (we have bike lanes here) and enjoy the lovely hilliside vistas. Napa and San Francisco are a hop, skip and a jump.

I will admit to hedging my bets. We kept our home there as an investment.

Best of luck to you.

Vickie,

I agree,  Orlando may not be for everyone.  Over the last 7 years, i have been dedicated to finding relocation customers their perfect home.  I work extremely hard to get my folks to look beyond the home and look into the lifestyle that will make them most comfortable with their transition. So finding a neighborhood suited for miles of Jogging and Biking can be done... and we always have the hills of Clermont... Don't get me wrong...Napa, Danville, San Francisco and Orlando... Perfection is so personal... which one is more better-er... Thanks for the comments.

I worked in Orlando for about two years, loved it. Knew a lot of places, besides the parks. Used to impress my guests by going to Wilderness Resort and then taking them just a mile and a half to Polynesian, and the contrast would stunn them.

Love downtown Orlando, Orange Ave, lakes hidden behind the developments all over. Whatched  Celebration going up...

And still could not cut myself from the ocean. I was dreaming about being close to the ocean or to the Sea since my early childhood visits to the Black Sea. So here I am, in Ponce Inlet (a small fisherman's town on the southern tip of the peninsula in the greater Daytona Beach area).

Tony - I have always found Orlando a great place to live.  I've been here since 1979.

I am always amused when people are negative about this great city.  Not enough art, no good restaurants.  All tourist attractions and cheap outlet malls.

First of all, we have everything under the sun.  It is true, you must do searching, but the reward is tremendous.  We have a big artistic community and we have wonderful restaurants.

And yes, it is all divided into Native and Tourist.  Like everywhere else.

This is the number 1 Vacation destination in the world.  Does that not say something?

Thank you for a great post.

Jon,

Thanks for the comments... I think Ponce Inlet is Bad... as in good... I have a condo in Melbourne which is also a very quiet spot but Ponce Inlet has much more character...

thanks again,

Douglas,

Orlando, like most big cities has challenges but we are the still only about 250k peolpe in the entire city... i think the county is only hovering around 1 million...so it's easy to be behind on some things... but 50 million visitors...can't all be wrong.

thanks for the comments

"stalking tourists for parking spaces" - Love it!  I do that too.  Orlando is really appealng to us at the moment as the weather in UK is pants at the moment.  Haven't really had much of a summer - it keeps raining.  Looking forward to being back in Orlando!
