Bruce Spruce Tree, Livermore, CABruce Spruce Tree
Downtown Livermore, CA

This is a city landmark of sorts, and really in the heart of the city. Directly across from the towering flagpole downtown, it sits at the southeast corner of Livermore Avenue.  Each corner has its attraction – Lizzie Fountain to the northwest, the Bank of Italy building, housing the town newspaper – The Independent, and the trellis Fountain, small greenbelt and flagpole to the southwest.

Throughout the year, the tree is bedecked with yellow ribbons in honor of servicemen and women in the community. Come 4th of July you’ll see the ribbons changed out from red, white and blue.  And the time of year the tree takes center stage?  Christmas for the Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony, and the Holiday Lights and Sounds Parade topped off by Santa’s arrival.

There are many landmarks Livermore, but this one is certainly one of the more beloved by residents and visitors alike.

Hello Karen ... Great Landmark and VB is a "Tree Huger" so he fits in! Say are you sure it's called a Bruce Spruce?

The reason I am asking is because there are trees there called Blue Spruce! Your post has been featured to the group:

Karen ~ That's an interactive monument with no electric required and it warms the hearts of the community. I love that!

Yes Andrew, it's helpful for folks new to the area that the spot actually marks what locals consider the center of town.

Yes, VB, it's Bruce Spruce as the tree takes center stage in a story, so of course it needs a name. But it is the blue spruce variety ;)

Diane, it is a friendly landmark too :)

Hi Karen.  A very cool landmark for sure.   I'm sure people delight that it changes "clothes" so to speak!
