So, how does your credit score? Are you an 800+. 750 - 799? 700-749? 650 -699? 600-649? 550-599? Under 550?

There is a Federal Law put into place, entitling a consumer to a free credit report every year - but these credit reports do not tell the consumer what their credit scores are. Credit Scores are not "freely" given out, that answer is going to cost you anywhere from $6 to $15 or so. Your credit score is determined from the credit report, along with several other factors, so it is very important to review your credit reports to make sure they are error free. Paying bills on time is one major component, but that alone will not guarantee a perfect score of 800+. Did you know, for example, if you have a credit limit of $5000 that you should only use $2500 of it? It's true, by not maxing out this credit card and only using up to half the amount will make a difference in your credit scores.

You do not have to buy credit monitoring to get your credit score, here are your other options:

Experian ($6 plus tax) www.experian.com or call 888-322-5583

Transunion ($7.95) www.transunion.com or 866-726-7388

Equifax ($7.95) www.equifax.com or 800-685-1111

*fees are subject to change, but this was the latest quote I had received from each agency.

Take the credit score quiz: http://www.bankrate.com/frm/fico/calc.asp  (this site has a calculator that estimates your FICO scores)
