Pick And Choose Your Social Media "FADS"

By

Social Media FadsPeople newer to the wide range of social media venues out there for their computers or smart mobile devices (phones/tablets) often ask me what they should log into. I say,

Pick And Choose Your Social Media "Fads".

I say fads, cause these things come and go despite initial public offerings and sky high market valuations. Remember MySpace? AOL chat rooms? Nothing it seems is guaranteed to last forever. Even Yahoo search, dominant at one point was eclipsed by Google.

The reason I bring it up is to let you know it is OK TO NOT BE ON EVERYTHING. Recently friends on Pinterest pointed out sharing of albums of photos which to me might sound like something I could explore cause I have not connected to that one. I mainly thought its function was sharing recipes, and that was not a fit for me. So many to look at, Facebook, Blogging, YouTube, Twitter, Google Plus, Instagram, Pinterest, the photo sharing sites like Tumblr, can ANYONE keep up with all of them? Does anyone want to? There is a care and feeding what you connect to. Being MOBILE with your devices helps in your day but think TIME TIME TIME TIME with all of them, and WHAT ARE YOU GETTING OUT OF THEM?

Again, OK to NOT jump on the BANDWAGON OF EVERYTHING OUT THERE!!!

Gary, you make a great point that it is not necessary to join every social media available. I think it is more important to do well with a few than to spread oneself so thin on all of them that little is accomplished.

Make it a great day.

Nicely put.  By spreading yourself thin, you make very little impact if any.

I don't think it is humanly possible to keep up with every social media platform out there AND to still have face to face contact with the people in our lives.

Pinterest is way more than recipes and shoes.  I personally like it for home and yard decorating ideas.  I also find lots of ideas that can be applied to my  photography.

I hope that you have a wonderful Sunday.

Gary, it's all fun & games until you end up in the emergency room for distracted walking or a DWT.

We've only got time for so much social media.  I think whatever we choose to be involved with, at least for the sake of business, we need to be there consistently.  Joining every platform and barely participating does no one any good.

Gary,

I go for the biggest bang for the buck. I'm being very selective.

I have done very little jumping out there at all.  To many things to be able to do them all right.

Gary-You stated an opinion I've had for some time now. You said it much better than I could though.

I am definitely "signed up" for more than I keep up, My focus is on 4 with AR being 1 of the 4. Google+ is slowly becoming #5. Pinterest, I am not yet into it although I will post here and there.

Gary- I have to agree.  I usually jump in, get my feet wet, get to see what's up, then choose what I enjoy doing.

I think I will just stick to a couple of the effective ones.

That's all I believe I need, otherwise it'll be a circus.

Gary, there certainly are a lot of social media options out there and it's difficult (dare I say, impossible?) to keep up with them all!
