My Personal Weltanschauung, Guiding Principles and Philosophy
Patricia Kennedy challenged the AR community with writing our own weltanschauung for personal or business, using the Active Rain weltanschauung model as a guide.
When I see the word weltanschauung the first thing that comes to my mind is “What’s your thing?” It may sound silly, but it is nonetheless what comes to my mind.
To put this in perspective let’s look at Active Rain's weltanschauung:
Weltanschauung: the guiding principles and philosophy of an organization; a world view
My personal weltanschauung, guiding principles and philosophy; a world view
1. Live by The Golden Rule. “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12. For me, this means living, being and doing things from my highest spiritual self. I am far from being a Saint. However, I do strive daily to live by The Golden Rule. That said, I frequently fall when people lie, cheat, steal, manipulate, make promises they fail to keep, blame others for their mistakes, fail to be accountable for their own actions, are unkind/mean to others ....
2. Live Honestly. Be honest with myself and others. Look honestly into my heart and soul and life my truth.
3. Live Authentically. To thine own self be true. Allow myself the freedom to be me. To live and speak my truth, and stand by it. For me, this means risking exposing my real self and being vulnerable in doing so. Many may not accept me and judge me. That's okay. I know I am not for everyone. I will not stand in another's judgment. They may not know it but it's not their job to judge me nor is it my job to judge anyone. For me, there is a difference between disapproving one's behavior and judging the person.
4. Be Accountable. Own my mistakes and atone for them. This means making amends and/or restitution for my mistakes. No one should pay for of suffer from my mistakes of misgivings. A heartfelt apology goes a long way.
5. Be Responsible. Do what I say I am going to do when I say I am going to do it.
6. Be Patient. Trust the right things will happen in the right time and know that all is well. I need not push for things to happen when I want and/or expect them to happen.
7. Be compassionate. Have compassion for myself and others. We all stumble and fall. We truly can, and do, make honest mistakes.
8. Be Understanding. Know that we are all in different places in life. Be willing to walk in someone else's shoes and accept that they are doing the best they can with the tools and resources they have.
9. Be Forgiving. Forgive myself and others. We all make mistakes. We all do things that hurt or disappoint others. Choosing to forgive and move on creates healing and restoration. It is okay to be upset, disappointed and perhaps even angry with situations and people. I speak my truth, forgive, let go and move on.
10. Live in Gratitude. Be grateful for all of the blessings, big and small. No matter what challenges life presents, find ways to be grateful and live with joy for all that is, and all that I perceive is not. From my highest spiritual self, live from a place of knowing that all is well.
I am human. I falter on my personal weltanschauung every day. I am aware when I falter. I forgive myself, make corrections and move on. It's okay to migrate away from relationships with people that are toxic to me. I choose to surround myself with people who share my personal weltanschauung, guiding principles and philosophy.
