If wishes were fishes...

If wishes were fishes...

I had a conversation with a former real estate agent who was thinking of getting back into the business after a break of 27 years. I asked him what he was doing to prepare himself to move forward.

He said nothing yet but hoped he could bypass all the classes because of his past experience and just take the test. The real estate industry has evolved since the 80's. Not everything is the same.

He will have to attend real estate school again since the license expired that far back. I recommended that he talk to several brokers and agents in the local area to gain a true direction.

He sighed heavily and said he'd think about it. If someone is not willing to do the work, hoping will not get them anywhere and if wishes were fishes, we'd all be well fed!

So well stated Wanda Kubat-Nerdin .  Over the years, we've passed through St. George twice while travelling outside of Salt Lake City.

I clicked LIKE.

Hi Wanda Kubat-Nerdin this is exactly what happen the mentality is with those who have been out of the business for decades...they think they can blend right in and the real estate industry has not changed .... it's not business as usual from decades ago..

Wanda,

Interest analogy Wanda...we say go fishing where the fish are biting...sounds like this gentleman is not really following his heart's desires, he is just settling, instead of bubbling with enthusiasm.  A

Good advice to him.   It is so different even since I started 16 years ago. I think we need to make it so we have more training before and after.

That person would be in shock to see what the business has progressed to over  the past 5 years, not to mention 27.  Thins are not what they used to be and if it was just the pursuit f a check, that is a fairy tale

I was licensed 20 years ago. Retaking the classes was more of an inconveniece rather than education. But the real market and ways of doing things has changed I jumped into all the classes I could in my first year back, especially those concerning our local contract. Those classes have been the best in getting me back up to speed.

He hasn't done this since the 80"s, Lord have mercy.  I'm not so sure this is going to work out.

Thanks Bruce Hicks, I am glad you appreciated this post.  My son lives there with his new bride!

Barbara Todaro I was trying to help him but felt that anything other than easy was not the route he wanted to take. Getting into this industry and being successful takes work and should not be a last resort type decision!

William Feela When I have questions or need another point of view, I go directly to the people who are able to give smart, effective advice. Implementing that advice when it makes sense as well!

RVA HomePRO Michael Hottman The classes may be hum-drum to some but a necessary refresher for those who have lost touch with the industry. There is nothing that compares to actually being hands on and digging in on an everyday basis!

I told all my agents in 2006 to get ready because real estate was changing as they know it. After that long of a break he needs to take and use everything new he can

Tom Braatz Waukesha County Real Estate 262-377-1459, That was some great advice for those who listened back then and heeded it! Those who did are most likely still in business.
