My personal Weltanshauung
I really loved this month's challenge from Patricia Kennedy to create our own personal Weltanschauung, inspired by ActiveRains previous challenge on the same topic. I reflect often on the person I am and my guiding principle's, but I've never put them down or have had them within view. Thanks to Pat, that's going to change.
While it's a struggle to not expound on them too much, the following principle's guide both my life & my business.
1. I believe helping others is the most important thing I can do in my business & personal life. If my only focus is helping others, the golden rule will work to take care of me.
2. I believe negativity & pessimism offer no benefit in any situation. Healthy skepticism is a good thing, but negative thoughts and negative people have no place in my life. I will not be afraid to eliminate those people & things that do not bring positivity to my business & my life.
3. I will not judge others, in my personal or professional life. I will constantly remind myself that every individual I encounter has had a different road, a different struggle, and as a result, different opinions and Weltanshauung's of their own.
4. In harmony with #3, I will not ever compete with anyone except for myself. In striving each day to become just a little better than the last personally AND professionally, I will achieve greatness on both a personal and professional level. Some will always have it easier. Some will always have it harder. That should not affect my level of effort.
5. I will base decisions, both large & small, on the Rotarian's 4 way test. Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build good will & better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
6. I believe that the way to live a life of passion is to continually learn & to try new things. I will be a jack of all trades, but not lose sight of the importance of being a master of a few. There is much to be learned from others - both successes, and mistakes.
7. For better or worse, 1 person can make a tremendous impact. On other's lives, and on the world. Keeping that in mind, I strive to make my impact's positive.
8. I will never value money beyond it's true worth. Money will never force my hand in decision making. I believe the exchange of time for money is usury.
9. I believe it's important to be always satisfied, but never complacent. Regardless of how much or how little I have, I will be happy. Regardless of how much or how little I have, I will put in my best effort.
10. My time is best spent pursuing goals. Big goals & small goals. Daily goals & lifetime goals. I wll climb Denali before I'm 40. I will read War & Peace before I die. I will finish this & 2 more blog posts before 1159pm tonight to complete AR's spring cloudburst challenge.
11. I will laugh every day, regardless of what the world throws at me. I will create, spread happiness, and never be boring. Keeping in mind the phrase "if you're bored then you're boring", I will never be bored. There is so much good in my life, it is impossible to not find SOMETHING to be happy about. Each day I wake up, I am blessed with 1,440 minutes to make the most of, and that in and of itself is something to smile about.
