Many recreational spots and green spaces include the Charles River Canoe and Kayak with boat rentals, Norembega Park and Auburndale Park with Lyons Field with its walking/jogging trails and "The Cove" Playground. Auburndale has a village center with shops, restaurants and banks mostly on Commonwealth Avenue, Lexington Street and Auburn Street.
The Islington Peninsula is a special enclave within the Auburndale Village limits. Surrounded by the Charles River, 97 homes form the Islington community.

Burr Elementary F A Day Middle Williams Elementary
Most of the students will attend Burr which feeds into F A Day Middle School and then to Newton North High School. Others will attend Williams Elementary which filters to Brown Middle and to Newton South HIgh School.
TRANSPORTATION
There is a commuter rail stop on Auburn Street with some parking spaces. Riverside Station has the light rail (trolley) Green Line (D) and a bus terminal with hundreds of parking spaces. The Woodland "T" station services neighborhoods in both Auburndale and Waban.
If you drive, then you have many road choices to get to Boston. If you work, go to school or even shop North, West or South of Newton you are good shape because Newton is bordered by The Massachusetts Turnpike (or as we say “The Pike”), Route 95/128 and Route 9. Commonwealth Avenue (part of the Boston Marathon Route) and Beacon Street are roads that lead straight into Boston.
Public Transportation is supplied by the Massachusetts Bay Transit System (MBTA...you remember “Charlie on the MTA”). The light rail (Green Line) into the city of Boston is referred to as “The T”.

The non profit Auburndale Community Association promotes the village of Auburndale in the city of Newton. The organization sponsors the Rove the Cove 5k Road Race.
In 2000 The Lasell Neighborhood Association was formed by neighbors who wanted to have a voice in shaping development in the neighborhood and also to socialize with each other. The LNA serves as a liaison between the neighbors and Lasell College, meeting with College officials and the City officials periodically as concerns arise.
The Auburndale Historic District Commission represents strong cohesiveness overseeing domestic architecture dating to the late 1840's. Lasell College and the historic Auburndale Congregational Church are at its geographic core. Monthly meetings are held in city hall to review bulding permits in the district.
