How to lower property taxes on your house if you believe value has dropped below purchase price.

If you believe your property (California only) has a lower value than when you purchased it, you may be able to lower your property taxes by contacting the assessor's office for your county.

For Los Angeles county, click here:

http://assessor.lacounty.gov/extranet/guides/prop8.aspx

Apparently, the application takes about 15 minutes to fill out and isn't too cumbersome.

Good luck!

I cannot get any of the forms on this site to open.  I would like to lower my property taxes due to the value of my house declining.  Can you send a form via email?

Thanks

I recommend doing a search for your property on http://www.declinevalue.com

It shows how much your current property is worth and compares with your neighbors...made my job easier on the reassessment application.

Good luck.
