If the Shoe Fits Wear it! Whats Your Favorite Easter Story?

Its Easter morning and I'm lying in bed.......its sooo quiet you could hear a pin drop........I don't hear any giggling, the rustle of little feet, squeals of delight.......This is my first Easter where I have no kids at home. - two have moved out and one is with her dad....and even at that the youngest is16.

Memories of Easter past...are floating through my mind. Its funny the things you remember...........One of my favourite memories is an Easter Sunday about 13 years ago.

The night before, I played Easter bunny and hid little chocolates and treats around the house. We had an old Victorian heritage home......and there were tonnes of nooks and crannies, great places to hide goodies. I was always on the lookout for something original.......because these kids were good - and I wanted the hunt to last more the 3 minutes!...I had placed the 3 empty Easter baskets on the kitchen table, one for each of the kids.

Before sunrise, 5 am to be exact .......I heard the pitter patter of their little feet coming down the stairs as they grabbed their baskets and went on a hunt to see what they could find...... It was too fun!

After that we got dressed in our Easter best, frilly dresses and hats, black patent shoes and headed out for church.....

I've always loved Easter service. I remember being mesmerized by the play the Sunday school children were putting on...........next to me on the pew my little 3 years old Rachel - kept squirming and complaining that her feet hurt! I kept shushing her and thinking - I guess its time to get bigger shoes.........she was growing so fast....

 ok maybe not sooo fast!

At any rate we got home after the service........I was intent on putting together our Easter Breakfast...when Rache came up to me asking me to take off her shoes for her.........she was having problems with her straps. As I bent over, I thought oh my gosh!.......her lacey white tights were are mess, her shoes had this brown stuff oozing out of them...........I paused for a moment........then burst out laughing! I had hid little chocolate eggs in her Shoes! I thought she'd find them when she went to get dressed............the poor thing had squeezed her feet in, not seeing them and worn them through the whole service! No wonder her shoes hurt... squished milk chocolate eggs where fighting for space with her little toes!

The moral of the story? If the shoe fits.......wear it? Memories can be sooo sweet!  Whats your favorite Easter memory?

Easter is not a holiday that I observe as I am Jewish.  But I did enjoy your "eggs in the shoes" strory.  I'm sure this Easter was bitter sweet for you as all your kids are grown and doing their own thing.  I hope you had a good Easter anyway!

Hey Liz, Sorry it's been awhile...Life stuff! Beautiful, funny, touching post. I can honestly say that each Easter is my favorite, as each year, new joys emerge and memories are created. It is a bitter sweet holiday for me, as while I know Christ died for our salvation, the hurt and sorrow he must have suffered hurts my heart any time think about it. Wonderful post!

My grandson (18 months) was sick this easter... so he woke up later than usual. The other kids (my younger ones ages 7-12) had already had their hunt. I loved that they re-hid their eggs and cheered him on as he searched for each one. I was glad to discover that it *is* possible for one person to participate in a seemingly competitive hunt. The experience cheered him right up and it made me happy to have young ones who gave up their 'score' for their little nephew.
