Deer Valley And Canyons Resort Closing Sunday April 13, 2014

By
Real Estate Agent with BHHS/Utah Properties 8528255-SA00

Today is the last day of skiing at Deer Valley and at Canyons Resort for the 2013-2014.

Even in a lean snow year like this one it is the lack of skiers and not the lack of snow that causes the resorts to close when they do.  There is still almost 100% coverage anywhere on the mountain and excellent conditions to be had.

If you want to get a bit more skiing in this year, Park City Mountain Resort will still be open for another week and Snowbird should be open until at least mid May.

See everyone next year.

I haven't checked but I'm sure all of NM ski resorts are closed for the season.  Just too dry.......

Wow Scott, I figure the locals would keep it open longer.  I know a couple of the resorts in our state loose there help soon so they need to close but have lots of snow yet.

Wow maybe that means I won't have to go play in the snow when I visit Toronto in 3 weeks.

Hi Scott - this is kinda surprising news -- I would have thought the weather would have kept the resorts open a bit longer.   I imagine this is going to have an impact on the local businesses who look to them for increased revenue.

Scott,

It's bitter sweet... love boarding and the snow, but love the season change to golf and shorts. One another note there will be a first day coming later this year

It would be nice if you could access the slopes longer, Scott.  This is the best time of the year for skiing.

AWW, the season is almost over! What do you guys do in the summer? I cannot wait to see another series of your summer blogs - I remember last year thinking "wow, they have a lot of fun there!"

Hi Scott  I guess you are coming to the end of the ski season but I would assume not the end of the RE market . Buyers and sellers would be smart to buy now and call you the Park City Real Estate expert

Hi Scott, it's hard for me to even imagine having snow on the ground when we're having 80 degree weathers in FL.

That seems early to me.  I'm pretty sure they are still going strong in our mountains.  Of course the latest storm on Sunday didnt hurt things at all.

Scott, i never got a chance to go skiing while I was in Colorado. But, I know many love the sport, and it nice to see there are still a few places still opened.

John-There is always next year....

Will-the seasonal workers are one reason but lack of people is probably the biggest reason.  Park City closes this Sunday, Alta at the end of the month and Snowbird is the one area that stays open as long as there is enough snow to ski, mid May to the Fourth of July depending on the year.  This year will be early, mid to late May.

Kevin-I sure hope not, we are in the 60's in Park City today.

Michael-no real economic impact.  They close the same time every year even in a year like 3 years ago when there was a ridiculous amount of snow and it doidnt really start to melt until late May.

Jon-and then a rebirth again next fall...but that can wait, I am looking forward to a beautiful summer.

Dan-I have been looking forward to summer for a long long time.

Gabe-I agree with you but most skiers, locals and tourists alike, don't really see it like that.

Erin-ziplining, mountain biking, alpine slides or if you are me....working, haha.

Hannah-thank you and yes, real estate is year round here.  Great time to come look at property when everything is available to see.

Beth-you can find snow somewhere in Northern Utah year round most years but you may have to go pretty high up in September and find a chute sheltered from the sun like at Snowbird.  Three years ago it didn't really start to melt until around the 10th of June, Snowbird was still sporting  181 inch base at the time.

Belinda-actiually a bit later this year because of the late Easter.  Both Deer Valley and PCMR (closing this Sunday) stayed open a week longer this year.

Jerry-you are still a young guy, give it a try sometime, haha.

Debbie-I would take the summer over the winter any day and twice on Sundays.

hi Scott, good that they have plenty of snow which we are looking for the run off when it does melt. Like Solomon says there's a season for everything. Time to start planning for the next ski season.
