Today I completed my tax return and while gathering papers, I came across paperwork from my trip to Germany last year. Naturally, that made me think of my son and how much I miss him.
I know he was recently here, for his niece's baptism last month, but I wish that I would see him more often. That is what all of us go through. I know I lived far away from my own parents for 17 years, while I was in Europe and I never understood how hard it was on them. Now I get it.
Gone are the days when the family lives out their entire life in one village, with grandparents, parents and children all in close proximity and available to assist each other in any situation. As I age, I wish my family was closer - but I do understand that they have to live their own lives, just as I did at their age.
(The photo was taken last May in Berlin).
