The Ideal Shop. Fashion in Searcy AR in 1967.

This picture comes from the 1967 yearbook for Harding College because the Ideal Shop bought an ad in the book along with lots of other Searcy businesses.  What I like about this picture is the style that it shows.

1.  At that time dress length was dictated by fashion.  No one dared to differ.

2.  Hats were very much in style.  Ideal Shop had lots of hats to choose from.

3.  Ladies wore gloves.  For church or any dress-up occasion.

4.  Shoes were high heels, yes, but you didn't see platform shoes like today's.

5.  Purses were simple and you needed one to match each outfit.  If you could afford a real alligator one, you were the cat's pajamas!

Right?   Sleuths?   Do you remember?

Today's paper says mini skirts are back in fasion. That's all I know about women's fashion.

As I (a newlywed ) couldn't afford an alligator purse....but once I "took" my mother's charge card and bought a matching purse and shoes....probably at Gus Blass in Little Rock.

Don, you know that you loved mini skirts. Young girls had to wear dresses to school unless the weather was below a certain temperature. You'd think that the school administrator would have those minis much more scandalous than pants. I know the girl who broke the dress code way back then! Anita, alligator purses were another rage back then. I had one and I had a pair of alligator shoes to match. I guess I even wore short skirts.

I am so much interested in old fashions. especially the old jeweleries. I would like to share my opinion on fashion ornaments. http://ambersceats.jimdo.com/
