Working A Room, and having fun

I was reading a blog on networking earlier today and it reminded me of a book that I bought about 25 years ago that really made a difference for a shy introvert like the fellow that I was at that time.

Susan RoAnne has a lot to say about making the most out of any social event, these events may not translate well on the internet but we as business people do need to get off of the internet once in a while and meet with people in the real world, unless you are like me and nobody shows up for your meetup.

I do however get out and attend many forestry, real estate and other meetings on a regular basis and find them very beneficial and enjoyable.

Even though my shy side seldom wants to go out and interact at many social gatherings, once I am in it, it gets easier, and when it is done, if I do it right, I come back with a pocket full of renewed relationships and many new friends as well.

Enjoy Susan’s video, and go find a group of people to make friends with this week.

Good morning Bob. Love the title to your post, as it is always an intrigue to "work a room". You just never know the possible results unless you make it part of what you do whenever you are in this situation.

Make it a great week!

Bob - It is always easier to network if you show interest in the other person.  It takes the pressure off.  I don't usually do homework on who will be there but it is a good idea.

Bob, I will look at the video (although that's a pretty severe look that woman has! Kinda like Elvira or Morticia...haha), but first I am sad that no one came to your MeetUp--I would have been there for sure!! I find you to be wonderfully fascinating, heartful and I'll bet full of interesting stories.

My husband has always been someone "behind the scenes" rather than in front of the crowd, making everything happen. I, on the other hand have never met a stranger! He has come out of his shell forcing himself to do the dreaded public speaking and spoke at his national EMS conference one year!!!

So, go work the room. I'll be there virtually applauding!

Bob, Susan is right about that High School thing, anyway wish I was closer because I love the great State of Wisconsin and a trip there for a meet up would have been fun.

Bob, sometimes it's not the easiest thing for introverts to go out and meet new people, but it is something we need to do. We can't sit behind a computer all the time and expect our business to grow. Home buyers and sellers like to see the agent they might hire in person.
