Help us stop the Mom's Act by signing the attached petition and writing to your Senators that I have listed below.
What is the Mom's Act and why you should be concerned? The Mom's Act language is in and of itself not that alarming to most people who do not read between the lines. You must know by now that there are few bills that get passed that do not have other motives or is just a step to another end. This bill seems innocent enough until you understand that it is the lack of language that raises concern.
The Mom's Act is just another of Big Pharma's bills to get new mothers and pregnant mothers hooked on drugs. This is a dangerous drug pushing bill. I have done a lot of research on Anti Depressants drugs and these are drugs that must be avoided. There are many natural ways to deal with baby blues, post partum depression and depression during pregnancy. There are serious side effects from anti depressants taking during pregnancy and cause SIDS, birth defects, spontaneous abortion and still births.
Bill S.1375 is currently in the Senate part of the legislative process. It was introduced to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on March 11, 2008. This bill was authored by Presidential Candidate Barack Obama, Senators Bernard Sanders (VT), Sherrod Brown (OH), and Christopher Dodd (CT). It has already passed the House with just 3 no votes. This just goes to show how much power Big Pharma really has over the House and the Senate. They are on break right now and will be back on March 31st.
The bill is supposed to screen women during their pregnancies for depression and postpartum depression and treat them with anti depressants during and after pregnancy. This is yet another more government involved in your life bill. This is another step towards taking away your right to say no to what is put in your body.
What happens if you say that you do not want to have the drugs? Will your children be taken away from you because you are labeled as a danger to them for refusing to take government mandated drug treatments? All the research clearly shows that these are the very drugs that can cause side effects of violence, hysteria and hallucinations. This bill is being pushed through as though they really want to help new mothers to deal with post partum depression. This is not the case. Do not be fooled by this bill. There is a voluntary teenage bill that is a lot like this and it was passed. The teens who have volunteered for the screening; 90% of those teens were medicated!
This is yet another danger sign of nationalized health care. This will be just one of the areas of more government control over your life that will become enforced by states.
Here is the very vague language of the bill:
Mom's Opportunity to Access Health, Education, Research, and Support for Postpartum Depression Act or the MOTHERS Act - Amends the Public Health Service Act to require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to award grants to:
(1) states to provide to women who have recently given birth and their families, before such women leave their birthing centers, education concerning postpartum depression, postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, and postpartum psychosis and to screen new mothers for such postpartum conditions during their first year of postnatal checkup visits; and
(2) public or nonprofit private entities to provide for the delivery of essential services to individuals with such postpartum conditions and their families.
Requires the Secretary, acting through the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the heads of other federal agencies that administer federal health programs, to organize a series of national meetings that are designed to develop a research plan for postpartum depression and psychosis.
Requires the Secretary, acting through the Director, to expand and intensify research relating to postpartum conditions to carry out such plan.
