The Haw River descends through Chatham County. It first touches Chatham County just east of Eli Whitney, then winds itself southeast between Fearrington and the Chapel Ridge Golf Club, goes through fingers of Jordan Lake, then finally empties into the Cape Fear River at the border of Chatham and Lee counties.
