Oceanfront Hawaii Real Estate

On the windward side of Oahu, just over the Pali Highway, you will find Kailua.  Kailua is known for it's wonderful white sand beach and laid back lifestyle.  If you drive to the beach in Kailua and turn right or south, you will drive into Lanikai.  Lanikai sits right between Kailua and Waimanalo but is only accessible from the Kailua side. 

The homes in Lanikai are some of the most expensive on the island.  The main street through Lanikai, Mokulua Drive, is a loop that brings you right back to where you started near Kailua Beach.  Every home down the backside of Mokulua Drive is an Ocean Front Home.  There are homes in the middle of the loop as well as homes up the hill side with unbelievable ocean views.

While there is Ocean Front Real Estate all around Oahu, my little story is about Lanikai Beach and it's Ocean Front Homes.  One thing about Hawaii Ocean Front Homes that people need to understand, is that sand comes and goes.  It seems though that the sand in Lanikai, for the most part, just goes.  I had a dear friend that lived in one of the homes on the beach.  Her property laid out like this, House, 25 feet of grass for the back yard, 30 feet of sand and the the water line.  The Famous Mokulua Islands were right in front of her home's windows.

I was over one evening and we were doing a little BBQ with some other friends and one of the people at the party was the home's caretaker.  This man had been the caretaker for this property of nearly 45 years!  He was telling me the story of how the family that built the home used to Swim in the Pool and Play Tennis on the long Hawaiian afternoons.  I brought to his attention that there was no pool or tennis court on the property and he told me that there used to be, in the BACKYARD! 

It seems that with the use of Seawalls, the residents have the erosion under control.  The Ocean Front Homes on Oahu are wonderful!  The sound of the waves lapping up on the shore, weather it be sand or rocks, is a sound that will lull you to sleep and gently wake you in the morning.  There are so many Ocean Front Front Homes here, you can pick and choose based on your lifestyle.  Surfer, love to fish from the shoreline, do you want a private place?  We have it all.
