GO ARMY!

I am a former Army servicemember and my husband is Active duty Army, stationed at Fort Eustis, VA.  So, in our household in Williamsburg, VA, it's always Go Army Go!!!

Fort Eustis is an Army post approximately 14 miles from Williamsburg, VA.  Not a bad commute if you want to find a home at a great value or some of the best schools for your children or to say you live in a historical city or if you want to live admist entertainment and good eats!  This is just a fraction of what is offered when you live in Williamsburg, VA.

Let me give it to you in dollars and cents...An E-6 WITH DEPENDENTS gets $1526.00 BAH (Basic Housing Allowance) An E-6 WITHOUT DEPENDENTS gets $1145 BAH.  In some instances (taking into account income, credit scores and debts), those BAH amounts would cover a mortgage!  Imagine that!  Why give that money to GMH Military Housing when you could invest it in a home of your very own Williamsburg, VA!

There are 4 high schools, 4 middle schools and 10 elementary school (1 of which will open this fall) in Wiilamsburg, VA.  That is combination of the City of Williamsburg, James City County and York County Williamsburg.  If you like to compare, this website will give comparisons of the schools:  http://www.schoolmatters.com/  Williamsburg, VA is also home to The College of William & Mary (http://www.wm.edu/).  Thomas Nelson Community College (http://tncc.edu/) has a brand building, currently under construction, in Williamsburg, VA.  Classes are now held in the Busch Corporate Center.  They also have classes on Fort Eustis on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Phase one of construction is expected to be complete by December 2007.

There are 2 publc libraries in Williamsburg, VA.  The Williamsburg Regional Library serves James City County and Upper York County.  The main branch is the Williamsburg Library and the other is the James City County Library.  Both are state of the art facilities that always facilitate mind expansion!  Year round there are various events and activities hosted by the library.  They offer an array of services ranging from Story Time for Toddlers to computer courses...and did I mention that those things were FREE?!  See for yourself what the libraries of Williamsburg, VA have to offer you and your family.  http://www.wrl.org/

How interesting is Williamsburg, VA you ask?  Can you say, COLONIAL?  Mega history, here folks!!  I'm talking where history lives.  If you're a historian, history buff or history lover, then Williamsburg, VA is THE spot for you to make your home.  You're literally living in history!  In Colonial Williamsburg, you can find re-enactments of various moments in the 18th Century.  http://www.colonialwilliamsburg.com/

What about fun things to do in Williamsburg, VA you ask?!?  How much time do you have to read about it?!  It's just that much. Williamsburg, VA is home to one of the most visited theme parks, Busch Gardens.  And by the way, Anheuser-Busch salutes the men and women of the armed services and their families by extending a complimentary single day pass to Sea World, Busch Gardens or Sesame Place Parks.  Register here... www.herosalute.com/cavatx/overview.htmlWilliasburg VA is also home to Water Country USA which has place among the top 20 parks in the world (according to a report from Themed Entertainment Association).  http://www.watercountryusa.com/.  Did I hear someone say golf?  Well, Williamsburg, VA is well equipped for golf.  With 7 different courses to choose from, you're guaranteed never to be bored!  Take a look at this website for more details: www.visitwilliamsburg.com/golf-in-williamsburg.  Not to mention all the shopping you can do at the Williamsburg Prime Outlets, The Williamsburg Pottery and The Williamsburg Winery.  Williamsburg, VA has got you covered when it comes to fun things to do!

Hey, Yvette.  What a great post on Williamsburg.  I'm sure families moving to the area will surely appreciate the links.  When we lived in Williamsburg, we had a number of friends and neighbors who worked at Fort Eustis.

If you insert "Fort Eustis" in the title, I can count this as an entry in the Military Relocations Contest.

GO Army Go!  Great post and good luck with the entry.  You included much information.  As a military spouse myself the more info I can find before PCSing really helps with the "don't knows".  The area sounds beautiful, maybe one day we will get stationed there.

Hi Michelle and thank you for commenting!  Williamsburg is a lovely place to live.  I tried to write an informative blog so that folks really got a picture of what it like if they've never been here.  If you are ever this way, call me and I can show you around!

Have a great, productive week!

Yvette do you advertise in the Army Times?  Then anyone PCS'ing to the area would know to call you.  You have allot more to offer to a military member than any old Joe Blow REALTOR.  You can have things set up on base for them when they arrive.  You know your way around the base and can get them where they need to be making there transition a positive one.  I'm also on active duty in the Air Force stationed in Tampa, FL @ MacDill AFB. Good Luck

Thank you Ron!  That's a good idea to advertise in the Army Times.  I'm thinking that will be a little pricey for my budget, but definitely worth looking into.  My husband is from FL (Orlando)...Enjoy that weather!
