I'm on the fundraising committee for the Wishing Star foundation and just wanted to share with you all one of the projects that Lexington Homes here in Spokane is donating to their wonderful cause.

Wishing Star Foundation will be the recipient of a major donation through the work of Lexington Homes. The Spokane residential home builder will hold ground-breaking ceremonies Wednesday (February 20) for a very special home to assist Wishing Star.

"We will build a home in the popular, family-friendly, Twin Bridges sub-division in the Valley, and all net proceeds from this home will go directly to the local Wishing Star Foundation," explained Dave Nerren, president of Lexington Homes.

Established in 1983, The Wishing Star Foundation, Inc. is the oldest, wish-granting organization in Eastern and Central Washington and Idaho. Wishing Star grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses between the ages of 3 and 21. A child does not need to be terminal to qualify for a wish.

"We are just overwhelmed by this generosity," said Paula Nordgaarden, Wishing Star executive director. "The expected donation amount from this Lexington Home for Wishing Star will make up over a quarter of our entire annual budget to help children."

Nerren said the idea of building a home to help the community came from a regular staff meeting.

"We wanted to come up with ideas to really give back," the Lexington Homes president said. "We have been blessed with much and the skills to build homes. We know the heart-warming family-support Wishing Star provides. It was an easy decision," he explained.

Nerren added that the "Wishing Star Home" is primarily made possible through the time and materials donations and reduced costs from sub-contractors and suppliers, as well as Lexington's efforts.

The "Wishing Star Home" will be a craftsman-style home with three bedrooms, three bathrooms and extensive space for the family. With over 4,000 sq ft finished, the "Wishing Star Home" will meet the needs of any family.  One of the best selling plans for Lexington, the "Wishing Star Home" will be packed with features expected in today's home buying market.

The ground-breaking is at 7:30a.m. Wednesday, February 20th, at 18911 E 11th. (In the Spokane Valley:  south on Barker to Twin Bridges sub-division --- east on 11th Avenue about  two blocks).

Wishes really do come true at Wishing Star. There are over 60 wishes currently in the process of being granted. To date, over 1,000 wishes have been granted by the organization.

"Besides making the wish experience one of the most memorable times in a child's life, we believe that ‘once a wish family, always a wish family,'" said Wishing Star executive director Paula Nordgaarden. "We continue to support these families who care for medically fragile children.

All of Lexington's companies will be actively involved in supporting the construction of the Wishing Star home, according to Nerren. Two years ago Lexington formed Lexington Estates, Inc. to meet the need for individual, premier custom homes;  Lexington Commercial to handle commercial construction;  and Lexington Land Development to handle site acquisition and land development.

Wishing Star's Mission Statement:

To provide wish kids with hope through uplifting and rejuvenating experiences refocusing on the joy of life.

To provide lasting support and memories for wish families.

To treat families and associates with dignity and protect their privacy.

To inspire greater community participation in fulfilling Wishing Star's mission.
