Make Sure the Professional is Licensed in the State You Live !

Can you call yourself Doctor, Lawyer, Realtor if you are not eligible to practice in that state ?   When someone docror lawyercalls for a showing…we verify membership in our MLS with the identification number.  Out of curiousity….for some other professions I looked to see if the person was licensed in the state where they referred to themselves as Doctor or Attorney….the state verification source did not list them. Though you would believe….quite naturally….blogging on writing of any kind done in a state and calling yourself by a professional title…that you held one in that state.  Deceptive ?  Yes…..walking the ethics border unless you have a disclaimer…now living in Texas….formerly barred in New Hampshire…

realtor Do you or your showing company verify that REAL Realtors are licensed in your state?  Hope your doctor, lawyer and dentist are as well as any other profession from nail tech and beautician to any others that your state may require.

You can never have toooo much information…..and being licensed where you live, practice, blog, write without a disclaimer would seem to be not enough !

Excellent point Sally and David.  I try to verify the status of all agents showing my listings.  Using an electronic lock box helps as they need to have a current key.

Hi Sally and David,

This is a good thing to do your research. Many Realtors use an out of state inspector in the Hobbs area. I say use the local inspector and keep money in the state.

Have a good Easter in Wisconsin.

Best, Clint McKie

Would  that it is only agents...we have lawyers and other using their titles in these states to deceive the public into believing they practice where they preach...not always true.

Good for you both.....and know that Realtors are not the only professionals allowing the public to think that they are licensed in the state in which they...live...blog from....appear to be experts.

Sally,

It certainly makes sense to check and see if someone is licensed.  Happy Sunday. A

I reviewed a job that didn't look right at the request of a seller who was asked to have some electrical work done after a home inspection.

He called me to review the work.  I did.

When I told him this electrician did not look licensed he said the guy showed him the license.  I suggested he look it up on the DPOR (Virginia's professional licensing site).

Turns out he WAS registered in Virginia - and it expired in 2005...

Funny how people  try to pass themselves off as licensed.....and they are not....and until you question it, you never know.

Sally,

A few years ago I buyer's agent showed one of my listings. I was suspicious of him right from the beginning. As it turned out, my intuition was right. His license was revoked and he borrowed a friends supra key to show my listing. He got into a lot of trouble for that one!

The other day I was driving when a truck pulled out in front of me. On the side of the truck was the words, "Dr. Plumber... for all your plumbing needs, call Dr. Plumber at (###) ###-####. I find that to be unethical too!

Good morning Sally. You are so right, it always make sense to check, the alternative can be much worse that the effort to make sure.

Make it a great week!
