Celebrating Spring-Hiking near Stinson Beach, Marin County

As a San Francisco and Silicon Valley Realtor®, weekends are usually a time to work. Saturday was no exception and the open house at the condo at 1 Elm Street #303 in San Carlos was well-attended by potential buyers.

Yesterday was Easter Sunday, and a day off. What better way is there to celebrate renewal than by heading outdoors for some exercise in gorgeous surroundings?

Stinson Beach and the slopes of Mt. Tamalpais were the draw for us yesterday afternoon. A scenic drive about 40 minutes north of San Francisco, across the Golden Gate Bridge, brought us to the trailhead at the base of the Willow Camp Fire Trail.

A steep climb up for about 2 miles provided ever-changing views of the Pacific Ocean, and rewarded us with hillsides full of wildflowers, more golden California poppies than I've ever seen, literally millions of them. We continued walking south on the Coastal Trail, then down the tree-covered,  Matt Davis Trail, with its many stairs, to Stinson Beach and back to the car thus ending our 6-mile walk.

This is one of the classic coastal hikes on Mt. Tamalpais any time of the year, but yesterday's wildflower display made it especially memorable.

Living in the San Francisco Bay Area - it doesn't get any better than this.

Jon, we pay big bucks to live in small places in San Francisco and in the Silicon Valley - but as I tell buyers, we don't stay in our houses much--too much to see, and do, and explore!

Whitney, thanks. It was an afternoon doing what I like best--hiking with my husband in our glorious area.

Lottie~ Thanks for sharing the beauty of your hike with us. I couldn't do 6 miles, or really even 1 mile. We are, however, planning a possible picnic at a nearby park for this coming weekend. I hope the weather holds out for us. I'll be sure to take photos of the scenery!

Good morning, Lottie. It is so unusual to see the mountainsides of California so lush and green. It seems as if every time I have gone to California everything is so brown.

Donna, there's nothing wrong with a picnic--fresh air, good company, good food -- enjoy yours!

Michael, with our current drought, I had doubts the hills would green up this spring. They did!

Joe, we tend to live in small houses here--but we don't stay in them a lot surrounded by all this beauty, with weather that allows us to get out and enjoy it all year round.
