12 World-Changing Events That Happened in History on April 22

What do “In God We Trust, Earth Day and Tsinghua University have in common? All 3 share an important anniversary today, April 22, 2013.
If you’ve read my blog, you know I enjoy learning new facts and interesting pieces of history. These 12 events for today’s blog post are primarily from History Orb and Wikipedia.
While these interesting items are intriguing, they have nothing to do with the real estate business, helping families buy and sell Silicon Valley homes in Santa Clara, Cupertinol and San Jose, Calif. They just add fun and fascination to life. I hope you find them interesting, too.
Anniversaries of Historical Events on April 22nd
1. 1864 – The U.S. Congress passes the Coinage Act of 1864 that mandates “In God We Trust” be placed on all coins minted as United States currency.
2. 1876 – The first National League baseball game is played in Philadelphia.
3. 1889 – At high noon on April 22, thousands of U.S. citizens rush to claim land in the Land Run of 1889. Within hours the cities of Oklahoma City and Guthrie are formed with populations of at least 10,000 people each.
4. 1911 – Tsinghua University, one of mainland China's leading universities, is founded.
5. 1912 – Pravda, the "voice" of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, begins publication in Saint Petersburg.
6. 1954 – Red Scare Starts : Witnesses begin testifying and live television coverage of the U.S Army-McCarthy Hearings begins.
7. 1964 – The 1964-1965 New York World's Fair opens for its first season.
8. 1969 – British yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston wins the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race and completes the first solo non-stop circumnavigation of the world.
9. 1970 –Earth Day is celebrated for the first time. The name and concept of Earth Day was pioneered by John McConnell in 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco. A separate Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. While this April 22 Earth Day was focused on the United States, a later organization launched by Denis Hayes, (the original national coordinator in 1970), took it international in 1990 and organized events in 141 nations.
10. 1977 – Optical fiber is first used to carry live telephone traffic.
11. 1993 – Version 1.0 of the Mosaic web browser is released.
12. 1998 – Disney's Animal Kingdom, one of several "lands" with separate admission prices, opens at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida, United States.
