Your First Real Estate Experience – A Contest

Reblogger Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist
Real Estate Broker/Owner with KD Realty - 408.972.1822 CA DRE#01366594

To date, I've read 91 entries to Karen's Contest - Your First Real Estate Experience. It is bitter-sweet being a judge because for the most part, I feel every entry is a winner.

It's not about winning though. As my Mom always used to say "It's not about whether you win or lose, it's about how you play the game."

If you have not wrote your post for Karen's contest yet, I encourage you to do so. We can all learn from the experiences of others.  I'm having a blast reading the entries. There is one common thread in all of them ... and that is the people factor.

Tell us your story of your first real estate experience.

Once upon a time, we've each been involved in our 'first' real estate transaction. Were you once a "Frightened First Time Buyer"? Did you have a mini melt down while stressed out and selling your first home? Ever been a credit-challenged renter or overwhelmed landlord? What about early in your career as a newby real estate agent at your first listing appointment? You can approach this in a number of ways.

Home Owner

Talk about the first time you bought or sold a property

Landlord or Tenant

An interesting situation when screening or showing applicants?

An incredible moment during your time as a tenant?

Industry Experience

Whether a real estate agent, broker, loan officer, stager, inspector….tell us about your first transaction or appointment while working as a professional in this industry.

  • Was It Memorable?
  • Was It Positive or Negative?
  • Did It Impact How You Do Business Now?
  • Will we laugh, shriek or be incredulous?

The Rules

  • Contest runs from April 1st through midnight, April 30th (EST)
  • One entry per member
  • Tell us how that first experience has influenced any best practices or avoidances in your own business.
  • Leave a link to your post in a comment here.
  • Consider a public post so consumers will know….we have been in your shoes!

Point Awards:

Entry – 500 pts.

First Place – 2000 pts.

Second Place – 1500 pts.

Third Place – 1000 pts.

3 Honorable Mentions at 500 pts.

Kathleen

I had a great time with my entry and it was a fun, and educational, step back in time.

I know what you mean about judging, having judged a number of contest. There are alwasy s omany wonderful entries, and so much we can each learn from each other. Coming up with the winners is always a major challenge.

Wow, I can't imagine reading/judging 91+ entries.  I kind of think though, that for many of these contests, it be better not to have a top 3 or top whatever as the judges spend so much time.  Just my 2 cents.

Hi Kathleen, My entry is not the typical Happily Ever after story but instead entails what can happen when unrepresented and buying a fbso. What a learning process that was! Thank you all for your time while judging all the stories!
