YouTube Thursdays - Video storyboards bring your script to life.
( First of all, if you don’t have a script for your video - start here)
If you want to make your video marketing efforts more productive, and easier, don’t forget to come up with a storyboard, or at least an outline of what you’re trying to accomplish. A good video, like a good story, should have a plan ( a good plot) with a beginning, middle, and end.
A true storyboard is a graphic representation of your video, shot by shot. It’s made up of a number of squares with illustrations or pictures depicting each shot, with notes about what’s going on in the scene. It may seem like a lot of extra work, but it’s paramount to have a direction or purpose, and will save you time.
The time-saving benefits of a storyboard.
Personally, I rarely use graphics in my storyboard, instead I use an outline describing each shot, and add notes to match the dialog ( script). Often, I rearrange my scenes as the vision unfolds during the process of planning my video. It becomes the guide for the shoot, editing, and matches the accompanying script, or subsequent voice over.
Your storyboard should also include technical details, verbal delivery methods - on location or post production, or both. Will graphics or text help your viewers digest the information? Consider the location of each shot, varying angles and distance, and note the best time of day for lighting. Add those variances to your storyboard.
Not only will the storyboard help you stay on task when you shoot the project, it will make your editing job more organized and simpler. Instead of weeding through scores of video trying to piece together a story line, it’s already done.
YouTube Thursdays reminds you to subscribe to one another’s channels, and to take the time to leave a “like” or comment from time-to-time. Be sure to watch a video to the end ( warning, those of you with LONG videos, that’s not likely with busy schedules) in order to give the producer credit.
