Publishing to LinkedIn, A New Twist for a Tired Old Network

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty

Yesterday I received an email from LinkedIn inviting me to publish there. My first reaction was less than spectacular. Actually, I'm surprised I opened the email. I wasn't a big LinkedIn fan. Yet.

Here's the invite:

LinkedIN Invitation to Publish

Having learned the hard way my next reaction was "I'm not giving you my content!"

But then, after I mulled it over for a few minutes, I thought back to my earliest days as a blogger, when nobody knew who I was, before ActiveRain. I remembered what was so exciting about AR when I was new was that instead on publishing into obscurity I could actually see the people were reading my posts. Now that was exciting!

I think publishing to LinkedIn provides us bloggers the same opportunity in a new place. On a huge, if not exciting, social media platform.

Here's the really cool part-

When you publish a blog post to LinkedIn your post is pinned right under your header for those who view your full profile to see, like this Albuquerque Real Estate Agent.

 Here's the post

Most profiles have your work history or background first. However, if you're a content creator, what better way to get your posts in front of new eyeballs, in front of people that you are looking you up than having your post featured front and center on your full profile?

Maybe they're thinking about which Realtor to hire to list and sell their home. Maybe they're looking for a buyer's broker or a new real estate company to work for. Wouldn't you want some content that distinguishes you front and center?

In my case, I'm actively trying to build my real estate team here in Albuquerque, so I chose to post about eXp Realty.

I'm excited about the possibilities here, do you see them too? Is it worth giving your content to LinkedIn?

I think so and I'll definitely be checking into it further.

And just in case the men and women behind the curtain here at ActiveRain take exception with me writing a post about publishing content eslewhere (which I realy don't think they will) notice that I found a nice opportunity to link back to one of my blog posts here in the Rain.

This is total awesomeness.

Great post Rich.

One thing you have opened my eyes to is that your content is so prominent in your linkedin profile. It makes me think it is worth putting together at least one really good content piece to highlight there.

I've been mulling over where to focus my efforts lately. For the time being, I'm concentrating on my own blog (own the site, own the content from what I've been told), but have considered branching out in LinkedIn, Trulia, ActiveRain and so on. The problem is that I don't want to duplicate content and it is pretty hard to come up with time or topics to keep 4-5 blogs fresh and interesting. What are your thoughts on the hierarchy of where you publish things?

Yes, great post Rich.

As far as John's question the hierarchy of where to publish your original content?

Them are fighting words around here :)

The question is, do you want Real estate people reading your content, or do you want to get that content out into the marketplace, or both ?

Rich - I just saw that on linked in.  I have been pushing my posts to update and to groups for a long time now.  I will try this now.  Anita Clark sent me over here.  I am glad she did.

Hi Rich, I post many of the blogs I do from Active Rain onto Linkedin too. Great to spread word and think that many people do use this on line portal as a business directory and more.

Noah, but when I go to your LinkedIn profile, I don't see them prominenty pinned underneath your header. That's the difference.

Rich - This is awesome.  And, it's timely as I was just trying last weekend to figure out how to publish here.  but, it looks like it may be invite only now.  (and given that I never check that email and get tons of spam I may not ever see the invite.

Hi Rich, I found this article through a reblog by Grant.  I have a question: I push my articles to LinkedIn frequently and never see them show up on my profile page.  What am I doing wrong?

Pushing and publishing are not the same thing. It looks like you have to received an invitation to publish to LI.

I'm not a big LinkedIn user, all I ever do is accept requests to connect and once in awhile I'll share a post there that I found and read elsewhere. The important difference is that when you push your blog post you are publishing a link and when you publsih to LinkedIn your URL starts with http://www.linkedin.com.......

Hello Rich, I used to publish to LinkedIn, but lately I've had a problem doing that...probly just some link or code that prevents me from sharing my AR posts with LinkedIn.  Anyway, just wanted to stop by and say hello since I saw the shout out that Debbie Reynolds gave you.  Heard you're from the Chicago area...what part?  I still have a home there.

I believe that there are lots of things you can do with your Linkedin profile. I’ve been using this platform for several years. I am glad that we can share our AR post directly to LinkedIn.
