There are a ton of trends that come and go, but “going green” is a trend that has been around for a while and will be more beneficial if it sticks. You can “go green” in every aspect of your life, the sky is the limit with this one. One of the most beneficial ways of going green, is inserting green techniques into your home. Here are four green living tricks for your home.

Wash Cold

You might have heard once that if you use hot water, your clothes get cleaner. Well, whoever told you that wasn’t thinking about the environment. Wash your clothes in cold water, instead of warm or hot water, to eliminate 500 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

Monitor Energy Use

Something as simple as monitoring when you use the electricity in your home can save you a lot of money. Unplug TVs, DVD players, and other household items when they aren’t in use. Even when you turn them off, they’re still using a small amount of energy.

Change Your Lightbulbs

The next time you need to change your lightbulbs, consider switching to a more energy efficient fluorescent bulb. The bulbs might cost more, but they will save you more on your electric bill in the long run.

Recycle

Recycling is underrated, and people don’t do it enough. The one huge benefit to recycling is that you will be cutting down the things that end up in landfills in the world. So get some extra bins and separate your recyclables as you toss them.
