This is the 12th of 17 entries (and one of my favorites) I've written for the "Mortgage Creative Writing Challenge".

The traditional Japanese Haiku format follows the syllable pattern of 5 - 7 - 5.
The writer might bring in a word or concept (kiga) that evokes memories of a particular season.
The last line is usually in sharp contrast (caesura) to the body of the poem.

I chose to backdrop each poem with a traditional Japanese watercolor or photograph. Some in contrast, others not.

To the Haiku purist the following might not be proper in the strict sense. Your latitude is appreciated.

Mortgage Haiku # 12

Why 17? It is the total number of syllables in a Haiku, no other reason.
Why separate them? Each one should be read and engaged individually.

Eleanor - We start at 5 AM out here west coast time just to keep up with you sharp east coasters.

I'm surrounded by easter candy right now!  Yeah! This one was a result of a series of posts a year ago,  The Credit Crunch, The LTV Crunch, and The Foreclosure Crunch.

Charlie - I'm glad!  Thanks.  (oh, and I don't really care for it either, at least in what I write)

Mara - Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!

Robert - Beautiful!

Jason - Wouldn't that be something, eh?   I'll be happy enough to get that contest going.

I think it was Haiku #10 that picked up a mention in the San Jose news paper.

"Some of Bay Area mortgage broker Mike Mueller's work is about creativity, and it's also about financing -- but it's not the "creative financing" we've all learned we should flee from. Mueller has written a series of 17 mortgage-related haiku poems. He told me they were more designed to speak to other mortgage professionals than to homeowners, but I think some of them are quite nice, no matter which side of the loan-closing table you happen to sit on."

How nice is that?

Hi Mike, I have been reading your Haiku's & I said a poem at the Easter breakfast table & told everyone it was a Haiku.  They all laughed.  I got it from you.  Thank you for bringing this back into my vocabulary.

Congratulations on your recognition for your haiku series in the Mercury! See? Something good will come of this contest. What could be more notable than warming up the finance side of this business?

Btw... I LOVE chocolate, so if you were thinking of a bribe.... ;-)

Redfin Too!

This just popped up on my Radar...

 Mortgage Haiku?

"I am really happy that someone has found a creative outlet in the midst of this mess - but I must admit, I have always wondered how Haiku made sense.  I find myself wondering how the current mortgage mess makes sense too, so perhaps there is synergy here somewhere."

I'm certainly enjoying your creativity, Mike.  It's got me thinking about doing some daily haiku's for our office.  Thanks
