Davis Furniture Searcy AR

Facebook calls it TBT meaning Throwback Thursday. So on this Thursday, I dug out a picture found in the Harding College yearbook ad section in 1967. It shows a picture of appliances in the Richard Davis Furniture Store.

I certainly remember appliances that looked like these. Notice the stoves. I don't see a single smooth-top stove like the ones that seems to be in all homes now, including mine. Trust me, I wish I had my old stove back. I really hate the smooth top.

And look at those rugs that are hanging on the wall. I don't remember seeing one of those lately.

Someone tell us who the lady is. Possibly Mrs. Davis??

Great post Barbara! I still remember that old country stove we had in my childhood home that was extra wide and had two ovens and a griddle attachment for pancakes and bacon! That stove was so versatile and never gave our family a single problem. Your post reminded me of a happy childhood memory! Thank You

Tarris, I think the old country stove was a lot of work for someone who ran the kitchen. But what kitchen isn't a lot of work? LOL I am so glad the blog brought back happy memories.

I went to Morris School from 1981-1985 and I wouldn't call us gangs but we looked out for one another. After being in school with a bunch of boys every girl for the most part was pretty. I somehow remember the girls name Sharon I think and another one that I cant remember. Just take a look at now and the way it was when we went to school there. I owe Morris School a debt I can't repay and that was learning how to take care of myself. Did all the grades at Morris School 5-9 and I will never forgot the day I was dropped off and my mom and dad said bye we will see you in a month and then how I felt when I graduated the 9th grade. I learned a bunch of life's lessons and took some knots on the heads from fellow students as well as staff. I just wish it was still open because I know 2 boys that would be students.

Yes Barbara, the lady in the picture is my beautiful mother, Margaret Coleman Davis doing what she did so well...selling. She and my father, Richard H Davis, owned and operated Davis Furniture and Appliance in Searcy for approx 30 years. They started in business in Kensett and relocated to Searcy purchasing the 215 W Race St property from Mrs Alta Darr Watkins. They retired in 1985, still live in Searcy and will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary in November.

Vickie, thanks for the history of your family furniture store. I did not know that they started in Kensett. I did know that they operated the store beautifully for so many years. It does not seem like almost 20 years since they retired. Tell them "hello" and that they are loved by all of Searcy! And White County!

Adrian, those older appliances seemed to hold up longer than the new ones.

I see some of that same era appliances STILL working in homes today! Guess the old "Made in America" stuff was pretty good!
