According to a national consumer survey conducted by OmniTel (on behalf of LoanDepot), almost half of people who wish to purchase real estate don't for fear of not being able to qualify for a loan.
Here are some interesting results from the survey:
- 29% of Americans would like to purchase a home within two years
- 20% already own a home and would like to purchase another primary residence, investment property, a retirement home, or a vacation home within two years
- 56% are not pursuing a real estate purchase because they believe they will not qualify for a loan
- 30% of homeowners who wish to purchase additional property also have doubt that they will qualify for a loan
- 71% of Americans who would like to purchase real estate will need financing
- 89% have not taken any steps toward the prequalification process
