The Four Step System for an excellent assistant . . . 1) Organize - this includes checklists - the checklist isn't the means to success, rather, it's the means to get to the next step in business management.  

 

2) Anticipate - a great assistant knows the agent they work for and can anticipate his or her needs and how to best assist them.  A great assistant can predict events and anticipate activities before they become issues.  

 

3) Participate - as your assistant becomes more knowledgable, skilled, and organized, he or she will be able to participate more in the business as his or her job description expands.  

 

4) Measure - Once your assistant has completely taken over your 80% - the mundane tasks of the business, and has gone on to become an expert in certain areas, he or she can effectively run the office in your absence.  The assistant will have a full system in place for measuring every activity in the office.
