No one really understands the bonds, and friendships that we have here is The Rain better than our own members. I have been blogging since January 2011, and have come to know many Active Rain members from all over the country, Canada, and other parts of the world too. We become virtual friends from building relationships here in Active Rain, and from time to time we have opportunities to meet our AR friends Face to Face.
Well, you’ll never guess who came to San Antonio this past Wednesday, April 23, 2014? Yes, you got it! Another Active Rain member, whom I first meet back in 2011. I was invited to attend a Boot Camp presented by Fairway Mortgage Company which teaches real estate agents how to better service US Military Members, Retirees, and their families. This course was design to give us CEU credits, and be awarded the Certified Military Residential Specialist Designation.
The course instructor, and National Director of the “Military Mortgage Specialist” division within Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation was an Active Rain Member, Ms. Louise G. Thaxton. Yes, Louise was in San Antonio to teach this workshop, since she had recently opened a new branch with a Team of Mortgage Professionals in Military City, USA.
During her presentation of the course, Louise looked over at my table, and said, “Active Rain, I know you, You Blog on Active Rain”. “Yes, Louise”, I said, “I recognized you too! Your boots confirmed it for me". If you’ve read Louise’s Blog, you’ll recognized the Boot Campaign in her signature block too. Blogging on Active Rain has certainly made our world smaller, especially when you finally get to meet a fellow Rain Member Face to Face.
I was also privileged to meet Sean Parnell, the author of the “Outlaw Platoon”. Sean shared his testimony of his first day in combat in Afghanistan, and how it affected himself, and members of his platoon. Many don’t understand what our combat veterans go through, and how difficult it is for them to adjust when they return home. It takes a lot of understanding and compassion from friends and family members, and even the general public. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(STSD) is common with many of our combat veterans, and they need our support and understanding. A Salute to all Veterans, Active or Retired, and their families for all their sacrifices, and “Service to Our Country”. Let's continue to Honor All our Veterans by remembering to wear Red on Fridays. Continue to Thank Them for Their Service, and if you are looking for a way to give back to our troops, you may text "Vets" to 27722 to donate $10, or you may wish to do what Louise Thaxton does with the Boot Campaign.
