Are You Successful at Managing Time?

At the end of each day I write out a to-do list for the next day and I normally order it from most important to least important. My daily goal is to get those top items done and if I have to move a few of the lower items to the next day, it’s generally not an issue. I am super organized and I thrive on seeing those list items crossed off. This is of course on a slower day. On busy days that list might not fare so well and it all comes down to time management.

As defined by Wikipedia:

TIME MANAGEMENT is the act or process of planning and exercising conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency or productivity.

Time management may be aided by a range of skills, tools, and techniques used to manage time when accomplishing specific tasks, projects, and goals complying with a due date.

So how do you effectively manage your time? You can’t predict when the phone is going to ring or an impromptu meeting is going to come up.  In fact there are many facets of your job that are up in the air. Start with a list and then delegate.  You cannot possibly handle everything yourself and expect to get it done effectively or efficiently.  A client of mine once said “Real Estate Agents have ADD and they love to be out talking with leads and clients, they don’t love sitting at a desk.” From my experience he hit the nail on the head. It is critical to be a great salesperson and a people person to generate business but it is also critical that the desk side of the job gets completed as well.

Many successful Real Estate Agents are high D's in the Disc Profile, and while this is a critical trait in Real Estate, it also makes it harder for that agent to delegate action items. Is it time for you to hire a Real Estate Virtual Assistant? I leave you with the following food for thought.

“You can do two things at once, but you can't focus effectively on two things at once.”
Gary Keller

“Focused action beats brilliance” – Mark Sanborn

“He who every morning plans the transaction of the day and follows out that plan, carries a thread that will guide him through the maze of the most busy life. But where no plan is laid, where the disposal of time is surrendered merely to the chance of incidence, chaos will soon reign.” – Victor Hugo

“You cannot run at full throttle when applying your mindset to all of the different things running through your head. Focusing is the key to manifesting your desires.” – Stephen Richards

“All the flowers of all of the tomorrows are in the seeds of today.” – Chinese Proverb

Michelle, sounds like you've got a successful system in place. Priotizing those to-do lists is key. Thanks for the tip!
