As I mentioned in my blogs this week about the vacation my wife and I took a vacation to Jacksonville, FL this past week to meet up with some friends who were there for a reunion with others who served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Hancock CVA-19. On our way to Jacksonville we stopped at Savannah, GA. for about a half day. As I stated in previous blogs I wished we could have stayed longer because our brief Vacation In Savannah, Georgia was one of the most enjoyable part of our trip. Our Vacation In Jacksonville, FL. was also very enjoyable, the only part of the trip I was a little disappointed with was Our Tour Of St. Augustine.
St. Augustine was very nice, but everything was much more spread out than Savannah, GA., so while there were interesting things to see, it did not have the same charm as Savannah. Having said that St. Augustine was worth the trip, and the tour worth taking.
Our Tour Of St. Augustine was on a trolley like the one in Savannah, but there were other ways of touring the city which were more romantic than the trolley as you can see in the picture below.
St. Augustine had several beautiful build spread out throughout the city. I was able to take pictures of some of the building while traveling on the trolley. Below are 6 pictures of some of the gorgeous historic buildings we saw.
Our only stop was at the Old St. Augustine Jail. The stories behind the jail of what a day consisted of for the prisoners were very interesting, as was some of the things we saw while in the jail. The picture below is of one of the the jail cells back in the early days of St. Augustine.
The Picture below is of some of the guns used by the Sheriff and Deputies during that time.
And in this picture below are some of the restraints used on the prisoners.
Just outside the prison was Gator Bob's Trading Post where we were able to purchase some souvenirs.
If you recall from my blog on Savannah, GA., Spanish Moss is very common in this area. The picture below is of a tree near the Old St. Augustine Jail which was covered with Spanish Moss. By the way Spanish Moss was used as mattress stuff for the mattresses provided to the prisoners.
If my wife and I should return back to St. Augustine again, I have already picked out the PERFECT Inn to stay at. An Inn with that name has to be EXCELLENT.
This blog concludes the blogs on our vacation to Jacksonville, FL., Savannah, GA., and Our Tour Of St. Augustine. I hope you have enjoyed the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.
