It must be bat season, Mr Kitty tells me so.

I love my cat, Mr. Kitty has a way of catching his prey that is sometimes hard to imagine. I have never known a cat to catch live bats at night, but he does. I think it must be bat season here in El Dorado County, he has been leaving me presents at the front door.

These guys are very beneficial to us eating a lot of insects. We have huge colonys here in Austin.

Good morning, Tom. I see a lot of bats flying around this area starting about this time of the year. I'm curious how your cat catches one because they normally don't fly that close to the ground.

That is one talented cat.  He's probably a good climber.

Looks like he enjoyed the delicate crunch of the wings!  I like to saute mine in butter - much richer, but still with that great crunch.

Good morning Tom. Just incredible. I never heard of a cat getting a bat. I wouldn't want to see a bat and I wonder about yours....hmmmm

I can't imagine what the evening bugs would be like without them Alan.

Michael - I wondered the same thing, then one day I saw him do it. Amazing!

Bats are blind, so they can not fly directly to where they want to go. So when they fly back home, they must land and walk a short while into the crevice they call home. Mr Kitty hangs out there, and snatches them if they land close enough.

He may be, but he's pretty smart at times too Debbie!

No, the wings were still in tact Jay. He usually chews off the head which I find hard to stomach.  :)

We've had a few run-ins with his bat catching Sheila. Live ones brought in the house, two at one time, concerns with disease...  Gotta love 'em!

Trust me Marco, he gets his share of rats and many other species around here.  :)

Hi Tom - We're still a couple of weeks away from the return of the brown bats. They winter up in the mountains, and summer with us. I'm pretty ambivalent about them - they're invaluable in keeping mosquitoes under control, but they creep me out and sometimes get in the house.

Carlsbad Caverns was my first encounter with bats as they exited the caverns at dusk. We had a family of bats raise their young on our front porch support beam... it was facinating to watch them come and go.

Bats are the only animal I know of that you can actually contract a disease from by touching.

The head you can't stomach, maybe, but you didn't say you can't stomach the wings ... or comment on my recipe.  Garlic is a good addition too.
