Who Do You Trust To Sell Your House?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

HitchhikersThere has been much discussion on social media following a segment on ABC's 20/20 news program about real estate agents holding open houses and stealing prescription meds, and also jewelry. The worst getting "caught" part was two agents at a vacant house for sale using it as their "private motel" for sexual rendezvous in the middle of the day over WEEKS.

So WHO?

do you trust to sell your home?

These characters on TV are bozos and lunatics, but how do you know that TOP PRODUCER is not one of them?

I would say UNLESS you PERSONALLY know them through the years, you need to go BEYOND referrals and check a handful of REFERENCES that the past clients had a good experience. The Seller in the ABC NEWS piece was simply stunned that the "reputable" Coldwell Banker sales guy had the arrogance to use his home as his flea bag mattress away from home with the mistress who ALSO was in real estate. They even made up the bed after each incident and were only caught because some motion detectors somewhere alerted the local police to a possible burglary. The worst part was the agents moved on to other firms and didn't even have their licenses revoked. We have a Code of Ethics, but someone has to enforce it.

There are SO MANY REALTORS and others in the housing industry who have high integrity, great reputations, and behave properly, I do think the public understands that there are a few bad apples out there that make for a titillating story. Welcome giving references should customers ask you. You have nothing to hide if YOU ARE GREAT!! It is a shame these unethical people are among us, and all we can do is root them out when they are exposed!!

I would trust someone with a track record that has been referred to me.

Hi Gary, I had not heard about this. It is hard to imagine but these days, I shouldn't be surprised at anything. I agree though, there are many wonderful agents that are committed to excllence and integrity and they are in every community. The bad apples need to be removed from the business and the firms need to be held accountable for hiring the despots in the first place. Now that we have the solution for real estate, perhaps we could suggest the same about some of the other not so professional  professionals that also prey on the innocent.

Why should we trust the media, they are told to with hold the real news and use fill like bad agents when they could be letting know the government is corrupted in all three branches of government. All western media is censored, and they have the nerve to pick on the Realestate industry which has more ethics than most attorneys and judges all the way to the top. If you don't believe me please read Defrauding America by Rodney Stich. He will explain how and why are media is gagged and told what to say to us the sheep. Good Post, I recently did a post on the segment on Friday night. 17 times they both visited the sellers house and snickered at the cameras ... Seller has complete story on Video. If any of you are avid readers check out the book and author above.

There are bad apples in every industry and mine certainly has its fair share.  I always proactively give references and I think that helps.

You will never see a story on 20/20 about the agent who gets the little old lady's 35,000 single wide to sell after she has moved out. She's too old to clean it so the agent sweeps, mops, and dusts. Then he puts up a shower curtain and some towels in the bathroom. Dolls up the kitchen. When he's done, he knows that buyers will see the potential in the little cream puff. Lots of time, little pay, sweet client who needs a little help from a friend. No, that agent will not be featured. And if he were, it would only be to ridicule him on how he ran his business.

20/20 only shows what draws in viewers.

Gary, it should not surprise you that a TV show focuses on the negative. It is what sells! Enjoy your day!

It only takes a few bad apples to give our entire industry a bad name.  Not cool at all.

Gary, another situation where the news publicizes the negative side of the industry because of a few bad apples. Unfortunately, it hurts the industry as a whole.

I think this goes with any other field... There is always those who ruin the image of the whole group... I think people must really do atleast a bit of background check just to make sure that they're dealing with a good agent, or a sane one atleast...lol

Gary, just today a friend called and told me her neighbor was selling. When she found out the neighbor was going to sell, she said "Have you signed anything yet? Don't sign until you meet with the agent who helped me buy and sell last year. She's great and she sells all her listings." Now that's an endorsement.

I missed out on these stories.  Unfortunately, there are bad apples in every bunch.  It is crticial that Realtors police each other, report Ethics violations and support the people that hear those violations.

Oh, my, Gary. Reminds me of what happened to my parents. They had a Florida property that was being leased out, and handled by a property management company. When someone moved out, it was taking months and months and no one was leasing it. I think they finally flew down there, only to discover that the property manager was using it as her lovenest!!! No WONDER they couldn't get it leased!! They fired her, then later sold it for a much better home.

Oy vey, these types of scenarios are truly what tarnishes those much larger groups who work very hard with gobs of integrity to make dreams come true for buyers and sellers.
