I missed my daughter Skylar's soccer game last week where she scored 4 goals in a 4-4 tie.
This week she did not start the game but as soon as she went in she was on a breakaway within 5 seconds and the shot went just wide of the net.
Skylar has taken to soccer like a fish to water. Last fall she would score 3 or 4 goals pretty much every game just by outrunning everyone else. This year she is still outrunning everyone else but has added some real soccer moves to the mix.
I am actually reduced to watching in amazement at times as she does things and has an awareness of the game that 5 year olds just do not have.
My older daughter Kyra is on her own path and is an amazing athlete in her own right having won her first slalom race just a few short months ago but these two kids are as opposite as can be.
I was recently looking to try to find a picture of Kyra playing soccer where she didn't have a smile on her face and I couldn't...every single picture she had a smile...huge grin.
With Skylar I tried the opposite and I can not find a single picture of her playing soccer where she HAS a smile on her face. For better or for worse this one is all business when she is playing.
So in the first half today Skylar scored one goal and had 6 shots that just barely missed. In the second half she lit on fire and scored 6 more goals for a total of 7 of her team's 9 goals in the game.
I just have to shake my head a bit at the way she plays the game.
